Mostra personale.
Comunicato stampa
Marcelle Hanselaar explores the complexities of existence beyond simplistic dichotomies, delving into allegorical themes such as the mythological narratives of Lilith, Eve, and Adam, and the personification of natural elements like the North Sea. The works reimagine traditional stories, presenting Eve and Lilith not as opposites, but as complementary figures, challenging gendered narratives and exploring themes of mutual recognition. Hanselaar addresses universal themes of loss, quest for meaning, and the blurring of human and animal instincts, showcasing the struggle for self-realization in a world bound by societal norms and personal challenges.
Hanselaar has had institutional solo exhibitions at the Museum de Reede in Antwerp, the Museum on the Seam in Jerusalem, the University of Aberystwyth in Wales, and the University of Brussels. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Smith College Museum, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, the Ashmolean Museum, and others.
