The Space of Art
Un omaggio alla gallerista, curatrice, filmaker e fotografa Gabriella Cardazzo.
Comunicato stampa
Gallery owner, art curator, photographer and filmmaker Gabriella Cardazzo’s love of art didn’t come to an end with her death, occurred three months ago at the age of 85. Friends from the art world that will gather in Venice on Monday, November, 4, 2024 are sure of that. An event in two parts, The Space of Art. Homage to Gabriella Cardazzo, will be held at Ca’ Tron seat of IUAV University (Santa Croce 1957, starting from 17:30) and at the Casa del Cinema–Videoteca Pasinetti (Palazzo Mocenigo, Santa Croce 1990, from 19:30).
Three main speeches and a dozen short contributions intended to outline the salient things of her life, profession and friendships, which are a vivid component of contemporary art history, are on the schedule of Part One: Director of the Institute of Art History at the Fondazione G. Cini in Venice Luca Massimo Barbero (La Galleria del Cavallino di Venezia), Padua University professor Giovanni Bianchi (From LOndon to VEnice, with LOVE, Patrick Procktor e Gabriella Cardazzo) and film historian Carlo Montanaro (Le altre immagini), together with friend Jane Chisholm, Polish art curator Ania Jagiełło, British artist Ian McKeever, art collector Luigino Rossi, Lithuanian art curator Helmutas Šabasevičius, Italian artist Mario Sillani Djerrahian, Polish art critic and curator Milada Ślizińska, Polish artist Leon Tarasewicz, Croatian art curator Janka Vukmir and Polish actor and artist Andrzej Wełmiński will entangle their memories in view to make a tribute to a noble figure who chose to remain distant from the clamour of the art world, and was always a contagious and attentive observer of contemporary developments and an extraordinary guide in recognising the spiritual dimension of art.
A series of images will also be screened from her 2020 photographic book Il tempo del Cavallino that offers breathtakingly intimate 1970s portraits of great artists such as Joseph Beuys, Brian Eno, Dan Graham, Tadeusz Kantor, Les Levine, Patrick Procktor, and Joe Tilson.
Then, by reaching at 19:30 the Casa del Cinema venue, event’s Part Two will offer the rare occasion to watch the film Art and Space: Portrait of an Art Journey by Gabriella Cardazzo and Duncan Ward (United Kingdom, 1997, 38’51’’).
You are cordially invited to join.
The first part of the meeting will be broadcast via live streaming and can be followed online.
