Dopo una settimana di decompressione, vita comune e lavoro di gruppo, Decompression Gathering Summer Camp è arrivata alla sua conclusione. Dalle 18,30 Radical Intention e Valerio Del Baglivo organizzano una serata finale di presentazione dell'esperienza collettiva vissuta assieme . L’intento del Decompression Camp di ripensare le tradizionali forme di residenza artistica e workshop e i conseguenti processi di produzione e trasmissione della conoscenza, si è sviluppato attraverso l'atto di riunirsi e costituire la base per l’articolazione di nuove forme di mutual learning, communal living e pratiche artistiche di auto-organizzazione. La settimana è stata scandita da una serie di azioni condivise che combinano momenti di riflessione teorica, ad esperienze di esplorazione del territorio, all’organizzazione di situazioni di convivialità e socialità, fino al coordinamento collettivo delle mansioni quotidiane presupposte al mantenimento della vita di gruppo. Questo momento finale d'incontro sarà scandito dall'introduzione sul lavoro di Brett Bloom, visiting artist di questa prima edizione, e dell'esprienza comune fra i partecipanti.

Hanno partecipato: Claire Bosi (Artista/nata a Ponte dell’Olio, Piacenza, Italia nel 1985, vive e lavora a Parigi, Francia), Francesca Crudo (Curatrice/nata nel 1988 a Firenze, vive e lavora a Milano, Italia), Nicoletta Dalfino Spinelli (arista e ricercatrice/nata nel 1987 a Bari, vive e lavora a Milano, Italia), Andrea Liu (Cirtica d’arte e di danza, danzatrice, vive e lavora a Brooklyn, NY, USA), Ruth Höflich (artista/ nata in Germania nel 1976, vive e lavora tra Monaco e Londra) William Hsu (artista/nato a Taipei nel 1979,vive e lavora a Auckland, New Zeland), Piero Passacantando (artista/nato a Roma nel 1979,vive e lavora a NY, USA).

Brett Bloom (Temporary Services – Chicago)

Brett Bloom è artista, scrittore, organizzatore e anche editore. Bloom è fondatore del gruppo Temporary Services, nato a Chicago nel 1998 è attualmente sparso tra Chicago, Copenhagen e Philadelphia. Le attività del gruppo comprendono: curare mostre, scrivere testi critici, organizzare interventi nello spazio pubblico, sostenere social justice movements e molto altro. La distinzione tra pratica artistiche e altre attività creative è irrilevante per il pensiero di Temporary Services. Il gruppo ha pubblicato oltre 90 tra booklets, newspapers, poster-booklets, e libri. Dal 2008 ha anche lanciato Half Letter Press, una casa editrice e un negozio online, per portare avanti i propri progetti editoriali e per costruire un’infrastruttura indipendente che promuove l’arte radicale e sperimentale. Temporary Services ha pubblicato il libro Group Work (Printed matter, NY,2007) che investiga le pratiche collaborative nei gruppi artistici, musicali e attivisti. Il gruppo ha deciso d’intraprendere questa ricerca a causa della grande mancanza di materiale critico approfondito sul complesso tema del group-working. Nel 2009 ha anche pubblicato un newspaper At Work: A National Conversation About Art, Labor & Economics, che è stato distribuito in più di 90 città Americane così come al di fuori degli USA. Il fine del giornale era quello di raccogliere punti di vista critici sulle condizioni lavorative nel campo artistico e di mettere in discussione la dominanza del discorso economico di mercato sulla produzione artistica e sulle nostre stesse vite. Oltre alla collaborazione con Temporary Services, Brett Bloom lavora con diverse configurazioni collaborative come per esempio Mythological Quartet che fondono insieme arte, ecologia, e local urban issues. Nel 2005 Bloom ha co-editato un doppio libro Beltown Paradise/Making Their Own Plans (Whitewalls, Chicago, 2005) che ragiona sull’attività di 5 gruppi (Park Fiction, Resource Center/City Farm, Belltown P-Patch/Growing Vine Street/Cottage Park, City Repair, Can Masdeu) in 5 città diverse (Hamburg, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Barcellona) i quali lavorano per spingere i residenti dei propri quartieri a trasformare lo spazio pubblico e a modificare le infrastrutture della città attraverso pratiche artistiche e attivismo creativo.

After a week of decompression, communal living and group working, Decompression Gathering Summer Camp has come to its last day. With visiting artist for this first edition, Brett Bloom (Temporary Services), the one week workshop/residency was dedicated to reflecting on the act of gathering as basis for a new articulation of mutual learning, communal living and group working, and for rethinking processes of production and knowledge transmission, typically used within traditional forms of artistic residencies or workshops. To do so the group experienced theoretical reflections through daily excursions in the territory of the Mugello Valley, situations of conviviality and sociability, daily collective tasks that were meant to maintain everyday group life. During the last day of the residency, Radical Intention and Valerio Del Baglivo will organize a presentation by Brett Bloom (Temporary Services) and by the participants.

Participants were: Claire Bosi (Artist/Born in Ponte dell’Olio (Piacenza, Italy in 1985, lives and works in Paris, France), Francesca Crudo (Curator/born in 1988 in Florence, lives and works in Milan, Italy), Nicoletta Dalfino Spinelli (Artist and Researcher/born in 1987 in Bari Italy, lives and works in Milan, Italy), Andrea Liu (Visual Art and Dance Critic, Dancer/lives and works in Brooklyn, NY, USA), Ruth Höflich (Artist/born in Germany in 1976, lives and works in Munich and London),William Hsu (Artist/born in Taipei in 1979, lives and works in Auckland, New Zeland), Piero Passacantando (Artist/Born in Rome, Italy, in 1979, lives and works in NY, USA).

Brett Bloom (Temporary Services - Chicago)
Brett Bloom is an artist, writer, organizer and publisher. His primary work is with the group Temporary Services. The group started in Chicago in 1998, and is currently based in Chicago, Copenhagen, and Philadelphia. The group makes exhibitions, writes critical essays, works in public, organizes exhibitions of others’ work, supports social justice movements, and more. The distinction between art practice and other creative human endeavors is irrelevant to them. Temporary Services has published over 90 booklets, newspapers, posterbooklets, and books. They have operated Half Letter Press, a publishing imprint and online store, to further their publishing goals and to build independent infrastructure for experimental and radical art, since 2008. Temporary Services published the book Group Work (Printed Matter, NY, 2007) which investigates the culture or collaborative practice in groups be they artistic, musical, or activist in nature. The group made the book because of the severe lack of published material on the nuances and complexities of working in groups, both the positive and negative aspects of this work. In 2009, they published a newspaper, Art Work: A National Conversation About Art, Labor & Economics, that was distributed in over 90 American cities as well as outside the US. The goal of a the paper was to foster conversations and the challenge the dominance of market discourse over the production of art and our daily lives. In addition to working with Temporary Services, Bloom works in other collaborative configurations, like the Mythological Quarter, that fuses art, ecology, local urban issues, and more in their work. In 2005, he co-edited a double-book Belltown Paradise / Making Their Own Plans (WhiteWalls, Chicago, 2005), about 5 groups (Park Fiction, Resource Center/City Farm, Belltown P-Pacth/Growing Vine Street/Cottage Park, City Repair, Can Masdeu) in 5 cities (Hamburg, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Barcelona) working to alter their neighborhoods to make public space, green space, and to change city infrastructure to more healthy, sustainable ends with art and creative activism.
