55. Biennale – Padiglione armeno

In Ararat Sarkissian's works, images of landscapes, cities, or battlefields emerge from the ambiguous ground, as memories were being accessed exactly on the surface of the canvas. In recent work, his subject has become nature itself, in allover images of fields of grain, foliage, or grasses. In his dreamy representations, Ararat Sarkissian presents memories of the lost Armenian empire, where the great battle between culture and nature yielded an enduring ethnic heritage.Ararat Sarkissian is an Armenian artist, who was born in Gyumri in 1956. He currently lives in Yerevan.
