Canal|05 Art Gallery è il nuovo spazio espositivo che animerà la scena artistica di Bruxelles. In mostra otto artisti italiani già molto noti sulla scena italiana e internazionale, e il cui lavoro ha strette relazioni con la realtà e le dinamiche politiche e sociali che la caratterizzano.

Canal|05 Art Gallery è il nuovo spazio espositivo che animerà la scena artistica di Bruxelles. Collocato nel quartiere Bruxelles 1000, in una delle zone più interessanti e vivaci della capitale belga, Canal|05 nasce dalla volontà di due giovani galleristi veneziani, Federico Corradazzo e Jacopo Morelli, con la complicità del critico e curatore Raffaele Gavarro.
Cercare nuovi stimoli fuori dall’Italia, ma anche un ormai sempre più diffuso desiderio di fuga, sono state le ragioni dell’approdo di Canal|05 a Bruxelles.
Condizioni e sentimenti che si è deciso avrebbero dovuto essere l’idea, il tema, lo spirito della prima mostra d’inaugurazione della galleria: “TOWARDS WHICH PLANET? - An Italian mood”, che aprirà Sabato 8 Febbraio 2014, con otto artisti italiani già molto noti sulla scena italiana e internazionale, e il cui lavoro ha strette relazioni con la realtà e le dinamiche politiche e sociali che la caratterizzano.
Di seguito un breve estratto delle riflessioni del curatore:
<<- La nuova rotta Capitano? Verso quale pianeta? Non saprei bene da quale romanzo, film o serie televisiva, ho preso questa frase. Forse era Star Trek: “Spazio, ultima frontiera. Eccovi i viaggi dell’astronave Enterprise…”. O forse si tratta solo di una suggestione, di un falso ricordo. Sia come sia, questa frase è più o meno quella che mi è venuta in mente ogni volta che negli ultimi tempi mi sono trovato a riflettere o a parlare di quanto in questi anni l’immaginario degli italiani abbia subito il fascino e la tentazione della fuga come unica possibilità di salvezza. Vi chiederete il perché di questa suggestione fantascientifica. Semplice. Perché su un altro pianeta, forse, non saremmo dovuti stare lì a spiegare l’inspiegabile di questi anni e, sempre forse, perché andando su un altro pianeta non ci saremmo sentiti addosso il senso di colpa dei nostri bisnonni e nonni emigranti.>>
“TOWARDS WHICH PLANET?” è un percorso di immagini, oggetti e installazioni che partono dal Belpaese e arrivano (in fuga) nel cuore dell’Europa.

Adalberto Abbate è nato a Palermo nel 1975, dove vive.
Bianco-Valente: Giovanna Bianco è nata a Latronico (PZ) nel 1962 e Pino Valente è nato a Napoli nel 1967. Lavorano insieme a Napoli dal 1993.
Raffaella Crispino è nata a Napoli nel 1979. Vive a Bruxelles.
Sandro Mele è nato a Lecce nel 1970. Vive a Roma.
Gioacchino Pontrelli è nato a Salerno nel 1965. Vive a Roma.
Giuseppe Stampone è nato a Cluses (Francia) nel 1972. Vive tra Roma e New York.
Eugenio Tibaldi è nato ad Alba (CN) nel 1977. Vive a Napoli.
Vedovamazzei: Stella Scala è nata a Napoli nel 1964 e Simeone Crispino è nato a Napoli nel 1962. Lavorano insieme a Milano dal 1991.

Dal mese di Febbraio 2014, CANAL|05 accoglierà mostre di artisti della scena emergente internazionale, creando connessioni e sviluppi di senso tra le diverse modalità espressive, i differenti linguaggi e le molte urgenze espressive che caratterizzano questo nostro tempo.

La Galleria sarà un promotore di ricerca, uno stimolatore di collaborazioni, un luogo d’incontro.
Vedrete non solo opere e mostre, ma ascolterete anche parole e ragionamenti sull’arte, e non solo quella visiva, ma anche letteraria, cinematografica e performativa. Si favoriranno percorsi di dialogo tra artisti, architetti, designer, musicisti, scrittori e poeti. L’offerta espositiva verrà quindi integrata da una programmazione parallela che intreccerà eventi collaterali, dentro e fuori le mura della galleria, all’insegna dell’interdisciplinarità e della sperimentazione, nella convinzione che oggi l’arte è prima di tutto un’esperienza che modifica il reale, e non una rappresentazione di quest’ultima davanti alla quale porsi in atteggiamento contemplativo.

Canal|05 Art Gallery is the new exhibition space to liven up the arts scene in Brussels. Located in the 1000 Brussels neighbourhood, in one of the most buzzing and vibrant districts in the Belgian capital city, Canal|05 started from an intuition of two young art dealers from Venice (Italy), Federico Corradazzo and Jacopo Morelli, alongside art critic and curator Raffaele Gavarro.
The will to find new inspiration and ideas outside Italy, but also the widespread desire to get away from the country, have landed Canal|05 in Brussels.
Conditions and feelings that have been chosen as the idea, the topic, the essence of the gallery’s inaugural show: “TOWARDS WHICH PLANET? - An Italian mood”, opening on Saturday, February 8 2014, featuring eight Italian artists, already well-known on both the Italian and the international art scene, and whose art work is closely linked to reality as well as to its politics and social phenomena.
Below is an excerpt of the curator’s observations:
<<- The new route, Captain? Towards which Planet? I can’t say exactly in which novel, film or TV series I read or heard that quote. Maybe Star Treck: “Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise…” Or maybe it is just something reverberating in my head. Anyway, this phrase has been oftentimes resonating in my mind lately, namely every time I found myself reflecting upon or discussing about how much, in the last few years, the collective imagination of the Italian people has been seduced by the appeal and fascination with the escape, as the very last chance at saving themselves. You might wonder the reason why such science-fiction suggestion. Simple. Because on another planet, maybe, we shouldn’t have explained the inexplicable that has happened over the last few years and, still maybe, because moving on to another planet we wouldn’t have felt the burden of guilt as our great-grandparents and grandparents who fled from their country.>>
“TOWARDS WHICH PLANET?” is a series of images, objects and installation that have left the Belpaese (the Beautiful Country) to arrive (after fleeing from their country) in the heart of Europe.

Starting from February 2014, CANAL|05 will host exhibitions showcasing emerging artists from all over the world, creating meaningful connections and developments between the different forms of expression, the different languages and the constant seeking of new expressive forms that characterize our time.

The Gallery will be a new reference point for the artists, whose aim is to champion new researches and collaborations. The gallery will allow visitors to enjoy not only artworks and exhibits, but they will also have the opportunity to listen to conversations and debates on a range of discipline, including visual arts, literature, cinematography, design and performance. It will encourage discussions among artists, architects, designers, musicians, writers and poets. The exhibitions will therefore be presented in parallel with other events, hosted both inside and outside the gallery space, honing cross-disciplinary interaction and experimentation, spurred by the belief that today art is first of all an experience to transform reality, and not a mere representation of it to be just contemplated.
