James Philip Thompson – Forced Perspective: Diluvio

Dato l’entusiasmo dimostrato in occasione del vernissage della mostra Correction Attempts: peccato colpa indulgenza, l’artista britannico James Philip Thompson incontrerà nuovamente il pubblico eseguendo una speciale performance, pensata appositamente per la Galleria l’Opera: Forced Perspective: Diluvio. L’azione verrà ripresa in diretta dalle telecamere e il video realizzato costituirà una nuova opera che, a partire dal giorno successivo, andrà ad arricchire la mostra inaugurata lo scorso 7 febbraio.
Attraverso un suggestivo gioco di prospettive, luci, ombre e suoni, l’artista intende offrire, coinvolgendo lo spettatore, una lettura simbolica dell’episodio veterotestamentario del Diluvio universale, in cui il concetto di emendatio si connette all’esperienza del vivere contemporaneo.
La performance si inserisce in un’originale e complessa ricerca – a cui Thompson lavora da due anni – che indaga le connessioni tra la storia, la religione e il senso di colpa instillato dalla società moderna. L’artista opera servendosi indifferentemente della pittura e della performance, senza imporsi alcun limite d’espressione e sempre con la medesima sincerità d’intenti, dimostrando una non comune versatilità.

"Forced Perspective: Diluvio"

Given the enthusiasm shown at the opening of the exhibition Correction Attempts: Sin Guilt Indulgence, the British artist James Philip Thompson will meet again the audience with a special performance, specially planned for the Galleria l’Opera: Forced Perspective: Diluvio. The action will be recorded live by cameras and the video produced will represent a new work that is going to enrich (starting from the day after) the exhibition opened on February 7th.
Through a fascinating interaction of perspectives, lights, shadows and sounds, the artist intends to offer, while involving the viewer, a symbolic reading of the Old Testament episode of the Flood, in which the concept of emendatio connects to the experience of contemporary living.
The performance is part of an original and complex research – at which Thompson has been working for two years – that explores the connections between the history, religion and guilt instilled by modern society. The artist works by using either painting or performance, without imposing to himself any limitation of expression and always with the same sincerity of purposes, therefore giving prove of an uncommon versatility.
