La Collezione Memphis alle Stelline

Il Refettorio delle Stelline, una galleria di sessanta metri dove nel ‘600 pranzavano le orfanelle di san Carlo Borromeo, offrirà il proprio spazio alla maggiore esposizione museale del design Memphis mai realizzata a Milano, città dove l’ultimo fenomeno di contro-design del XX secolo è nato, nel 1981.

LA COLLEZIONE MEMPHIS ALLE STELLINE

Il Refettorio delle Stelline, una galleria di sessanta metri dove nel ‘600 pranzavano le orfanelle di san Carlo Borromeo, offrirà il proprio spazio alla maggiore esposizione museale del design Memphis mai realizzata a Milano, città dove l’ultimo fenomeno di contro-design del XX secolo è nato, nel 1981.
Allestiti sull’asse longitudinale della galleria, gli oggetti dei protagonisti del movimento sfileranno come i personaggi ambigui, ludici e ironici di un’epoca segnata dall’ottimismo e dalla spregiudicatezza narcisistica. Icone del Post-Modern Style e, del linguaggio stratificato e contraddittorio degli anni ’80, questi oggetti si impongono per il vistoso amore per la citazione, il montaggio semantico e l’accostamento di materiali industriali su trame di alto artigianato italiano. La mostra si apre con un tributo visivo e sensoriale al “decennio effimero”, con laser-graphics sparati nel cielo della galleria, incursioni a sorpresa dei protagonisti e un tappeto sonoro a tema.
Per l'occasione 1A Classe presenterà una borsa da viaggio realizzata in collaborazione con
Nathalie Du Pasquier.

POST DESIGN

E’ il marchio con il quale la Società Memphis produce le nuove collezioni. Pensato da Ettore Sottsass insieme ad Alberto Bianchi Albrici, con il marchio Post Design sono state presentate oltre alle opere di Sottsass, anche le collezioni di alcuni tra i più importanti autori del panorama internazionale come Johanna Grawunder, Pierre Charpin, Denis Santachiara, Nathalie Du Pasquier, George J. Sowden, Nanda Vigo, Alessandro Mendini, Markus Benesch, Alberto Biagetti, Ron Arad e Richard Woods.
Post Design è anche il nome della galleria Milanese che ospita tutte le iniziative Memphis.

MEMPHIS

La Società Memphis viene fondata nel 1981 per produrre i prodotti disegnati da Ettore Sottsass e da un gruppo di giovani architetti e designers riunitisi attorno a lui
Memphis nasce come laboratorio per lo sviluppo di nuove idee progettuali e ben presto diventa un vero e proprio fenomeno culturale
Con Ettore Sottsass e Barbara Radice come riferimento del gruppo, il design di Memphis ha acquisito una nuova concezione espressiva legata a nuove forme, nuovi materiali e nuovi patterns, ha ridisegnato le abitudini circa l’idea dell’abitare, rivoluzionando le logiche del mondo del design.
Il movimento Memphis è così diventato il simbolo quasi mitico del “Nuovo Design”.
L’ultima collezione del gruppo Memphis è stata disegnata nel 1988.

REFETTORIO DELLE STELLINE

Il Palazzo delle Stelline è uno dei luoghi di Milano più profondamente legati alla storia della città. Dal XVIII sec. l'edificio ospitò l'orfanotrofio femminile e mantenne tale funzione fino agli anni Settanta quando, divenuto proprietà del Comune, subì un primo parziale intervento di recupero a cui seguì nel 1983 il completo restauro da parte del Gruppo Credito Valtellinese.
Attorno ai tre chiostri del Palazzo hanno sede importanti istituzioni anche internazionali: l'Istituto per il Commercio Estero, l'Unione Europea, la Fondazione Stelline, il Centre Culturel Français, la Fondazione Mattei e il Credito Artigiano.
La Galleria Gruppo Credito Valtellinese è collocata nel settecentesco Refettorio, 500 mq di sala espositiva inaugurata nel 1987 con un'indimenticabile evento cittadino.
Andy Warhol fu invitato da Alexandre Iolas a misurarsi con uno dei più grandi maestri di tutti i secoli: Leonardo.
Un successo clamoroso, l'ultimo per il geniale artista newyorchese (morì pochi mesi dopo), ma che per il Credito Valtellinese fu l'inizio di una presenza che doveva nel tempo consolidarsi e svilupparsi.
L'intensa programmazione successiva ha offerto alla città di Milano occasioni di incontro con importanti personalità artistiche.

LA COLLEZIONE MEMPHIS ALLE STELLINE

The Stelline Refettorio, a sixty meters long Gallery, where in the ‘600 the orphans of San Carlo Borromeo used to dine, will offer the space at the most extended museum exhibition of Memphis design ever performed in Milan, city where the last case of against-design of the XX century has born, in 1981, Set up on the longitudinal axis of the Gallery, the object of the Memphis trend protagonists will march like unclear, playful and ironic characters of a season characterized by positivism and by a narcissistic lack of scruples.
Post Modern style icons and, of the stratified and contradictory language of the ’80, these objects stands out for their showy love for the quote, for the semantic editing and for the combination of industrial materials on very high standard of Italian handicraft. The exhibition opens with an optical and sensorial tribute to the “evanescent decade”, with laser-graphic tossed in the Gallery sky, surprise visit of the protagonists and a special sound effect carpet.
On the occasion 1A Classe will present a travelling bag realized in collaboration with
Nathalie Du Pasquier.

Post Design is the brand name under which Memphis Company produces its new collections.
Created on the initiative of Ettore Sottsass together with Alberto Bianchi Albrici, Post Design showcased Sottsass' works and the collections of international designers such as Johanna Grawunder, Pierre Charpin, Denis Santachiara, Nathalie Du Pasquier, George J.Sowden, Nanda Vigo, Alessandro Mendini, Markus Benesch, Alberto Biagetti, Ron Arad and Richard Woods.
Post Design is also the name of the Milanese gallery that exhibits Memphis' productions

MEMPHIS

The Memphis Company was founded in 1981 to produce the pieces designed by Ettore Sottsass and by a group of young architects and designers working with him.
Memphis was thus born as a cultural laboratory for the development of new projectual ideas and soon became a cultural phenomenon. Memphis' design, with Ettore Sottsass and Barbara Radice as the backbone of the group, promoted a new freedom of expression through the utilisation of new shapes, materials and patterns. In no time, it redefined the way we relate to the space we live in, revolutionizing the rules of Design. Hence, the Memphis movement has become the almost mythical symbol of "New Design".
The last Collection was created in 1988.

GALLERIA GRUPPO CREDITO VALTELLINESE
REFETTORIO DELLE STELLINE (REFECTORY OF THE LITTLE STARS)

The Palazzo delle Stelline in Milan is deeply rooted in the history of the city. Beginning in the eighteenth century, the building housed the orphanage for girls and conserved that function until the 1970s, when it became the property of the City. It underwent an initial partial renovation, followed in 1983 by its complete restoration by the Credito Valtellinese Group.
Around the three cloisters of the Palazzo are located important institutions, some of which are international: the Institute for Foreign Trade, the European Union, the Stelline Foundation, the Centre Culturel Français, the Foundation Mattei and Credito Artigiano.
The Galleria Gruppo Credito Valtellina is located in the Refectory from the eighteenth century. The 500 square meters exhibition hall was inaugurated in 1987 in an unforgettable event for the city.
Andy Warhol was invited by Alexandre Iolas to contend with one of the greatest masters of all ages: Leonardo da Vinci.
It was a resounding success, the last for the talented New York artist (he died a few months later), but for Credito Valtellinese it was just the beginning of activities that were to grow and evolve over time.
The intense programming that followed created occasions for the city of Milan to meet with important artistic personalities.
