Mostosi | Vanni | Vestrucci
Terza delle quattro mostre in programma qui in Belgio continuando l’escursus sulle ultime generazioni italiane iniziato a Siena e proseguito a Bruxelles.
Comunicato stampa
Galleria FuoriCampo is pleased to announce the third of the four exhibitions scheduled for the temporary space at 49, Rue Léon Lepage in Brussels. Our overview of the art of the latest Italian generations continues with three young artists, Anna Mostosi (Milan 1987), Eugenia Vanni (Siena 1980), and Serena Vestrucci (Milan 1986), who present some of their latest works.
The works plot a conceptual course that is pursued in reverse – retracing the steps of consequences – in a search for the origin of form, and of the perception of form, passing through common places and things that inhabit the world of our imagination. This locates the point of view from which we observe reality, and becomes the paradigm of our understanding of the world, recognizing in it that which we already perhaps know.
Anna Mostosi executes her work with skilful ability, employing – and redeploying – time, in a search (or research) that is conducted through actual actions. Familiar objects, on which she builds a universe of hidden possibilities, are converted to new non-functionalities, placed in a context between use and form. Aerodynamic prototypes, on the point of finding a solution to the division between the end and the means, are intertwined, mirroring their ultimate practical and theoretical purpose. A similar tension is resolved by Eugenia Vanni by using light as a material, and point of view as a backdrop, for an experience halfway between concept and capability (its own, and that of others). The works are the result of a mutual exchange of skills, between the artist and people with differing abilities, as the effect of a shared process that regards the artwork as the final stage in a journey, and as influenced not only by the mind of the person who devised the concept, but also by the hand of the person who created it. Knowledge, technique and experimentation are also features of the output of Serena Vestrucci, whose works relate not so much the making of marks, as the chromatic experience, to its initial, primitive stage, as if to test the expressive possibilities of the unusual material with which she creates the make-up of her canvases. Works that seem to be the result of playing games with powder-paint, in which, among the chromatic mists, one happens to come across the atmosphere of certain moments in the history of art, and the profile of our memories.
The desire to access the observable effects of their actions, and the techniques they use, through empirical means, each technique the product of successive attempts and improvements, and directed towards their own field of application, becomes a feature that is shared by all three artists, who certainly do not lack a certain injection of irony, in the same place wherein lies their concept of aesthetics, and their aesthetic sense.
