L'esposizione mostrerà 18 de / collages di Bright - collages formati da lembi di manifesti che si sovrappongono e ri-combinati accoppiandosi con fotografie digitali di David Houston nate per la pubblicità e la realizzazione di manifesti. Le opere di Bright di formato quadrato vicino ai 15cm., accostate alle immagini digitali di Houston generalmente più grandi attorno ai 90x60 cm. Nell’allestimento in Galleria del Carbone i collages saranno appesi in sovrapposizione alle stampe digitali per accentuare il dialogo delle superfici in e tra i lavori.
Bright dice: ‘Skin in the game interviene sul termine business che utilizza la pelle dei corpi, le superfici come merci ed altrettanto usa la bellezza, i volti con il solo di vendere cose. (Le opere) utilizzano come linguaggio espressivo le superfici lacerate e disgregate dei de /collages, nelle stampe digitali le distorsioni e riflessioni ma anche le viste particolareggiate ne accentuano i significati. Tutti noi stiamo vivendo in un mondo inondato di immagini; David ed io captiamo quello che vediamo nel flusso mediatico in declino, entrambi utilizziamo queste immagini - mere rappresentazioni – per crearne delle “altre”: nuovi oggetti capaci di suscitare nuove risposte, portatrici di speranza.' All'inaugurazione interverrà il pianista Jacques Lazzari che eseguirà una sua composizione realizzata appositamente per la mostra di Bright e Houston____________________________________________The exhibition will show about 18 of Bright’s de/collages - collages formed from torn-away sections of posters and re-combined with other images -- paired with printed digital photos of advertising billboards by David Houston. Bright’s works range in size from about 6 inches square to 34 x 24 inches, while Houston’s digital images are generally larger. The collages will overlap and hang away from the wall in front of the digital prints, accentuating the play of surfaces in and between the works.
Bright says: ‘Skin in the game is a play on the business term, and on skin and surfaces as commodities; how beauty, bodies, and faces are used to sell things. But it also refers to the torn and disrupted surfaces of the de/collages and the distortions and reflections depicted in the digital prints. We wade into a world awash with images, and David and I grab what we can make use of from the ebb and flow. Both of us are interested, I think, in taking these images -mere representations- and making them things again; objects capable of eliciting fresh responses, hopefully.’
Ferrara composer-pianist, Jacques Lazzari, will perform a piece at the opening of Skin in the Game that responds to the works in the exhibition.
