Hyuro – Convivencia

La Dorothy Circus Galley è lieta di presentare “Convivencia”, la prima personale italiana della street artist argentina di fama internazionale Hyuro. In occasione della sua collaborazione con la DCG, Hyuro darà vita a un nuovissimo intervento di street art per la città di Roma: il quinto step del progetto Spray For Your Rights, portato avanti dalla Galleria negli ultimi due anni.

Dorothy Circus Gallery is pleased to present “Convivencia”, the first Italian solo show by the internationally renowned Argentinean street artist Hyuro. On the occasion of this collaboration with DCG, Hyuro will also give birth to a new outdoor mural painting for the city of Rome: the fifth Step of the project Spray for Your Rights, pursued by the Gallery for the last two years.

With this Step #5 and her solo exhibition, Hyuro will interpret the theme of reception of coexistence. Through a series of drawings and watercolors, the artist opens a discussion that spots a light on the process of accepting oneself and the others; a discourse that describes both the individual and the collective relationships. In her works, therefore, the characters deal with their own spaces as well as with the shared ones, by visually developing a language that aims at discussing social and psychological themes, which are deeply relevant today.

The works created by the Argentinean artist are remarkable for their delicate fusion of socio-political messages and a unique surrealist sensibility. In her dreamlike compositions, a cast of mysterious characters plays a performance that whispers a message, but that, at the same time, always sponsors the viewer’s freedom of interpretation. Hyuro’s imagery is strongly rooted in a personal reflection on people – especially women – in our contemporary society. By scrutinizing these kinds of issues, the artist leads her work further, in order to uproot all the prejudices and stereotypes that are usually associated with males and females in today’s society.

This precise, poisonous, and subtle analysis, together with a constantly evolving painting technique, which has turned into an extreme synthesis of delicate grey-like colors. The same tones tend to underline feelings and issues seemingly negative, which can however be turned upside down to go searching for that empathy and human sentiment we too often forget. It is always interesting to notice how Hyuro toils through visual associations, cryptic artworks and frame by frame, where the actions, symbolic objects of this intellectual slavery, become an active part of the reasoning and the ideas dealt with and deepened by the artist.

Hyuro started her career by painting on canvas and she still produces paintings and drawings. During the last years, however, she focused on outdoor productions, which led her to become one of the most interesting and innovative street artists in Europe. Already in 2014, Hyuro realized an important artistic intervention in Moscow, where she stood out as the only female artist of the first International Street Art Biannual of Russia. The following year, she took part in Madrid Street Art Project for Madrid’s metro station and proposed a biting meditation of the female figure and her ordinary life, delineating a path of in-depth social and anthropologic analysis.

Attraverso lo Step #5 e la sua mostra personale, Hyuro interpreta il tema della ricezione della coesistenza. Tramite una serie di disegni e acquerelli l’artista apre una discussione che evidenzia il processo dell’accettazione di se stessi e gli altri, sviluppando un discorso che descrive sia le relazioni individuali che quelle collettive. Nelle sue opere, dunque, i personaggi si relazionano ai loro stessi spazi, così come a quelli condivisi, sprigionando un linguaggio visivo che mira a discutere tematiche sociali e psicologiche fortemente attuali.

Le produzioni di Hyuro si distinguono per la delicata fusione di messaggi politici e sociali e una sensibilità surrealista dal codice unico. Nelle sue composizioni oniriche, un cast di personaggi misteriosi mette in scena uno spettacolo atto a sussurrare un messaggio che tuttavia lascia ampio spazio interpretativo allo spettatore. L’immaginario di Hyuro è fortemente radicato in una riflessione personale sull’essere umano, specialmente sulle donne, all’interno della società contemporanea. Approfondendo questa tematica, l’artista argentina genera un lavoro che punta a sradicare tutti quei preconcetti e gli stereotipi solitamente associati al maschile e al femminile nella società d’oggi.

Questa precisa, velenosa e sottile analisi concorre con una pittura che nel suo sviluppo ha saputo evolversi e mutare verso una sintesi estrema caratterizzata da colori e tinte delicate, vicine al grigio. Questi stessi toni tendono a sottolineare sentimenti e problematiche apparentemente negative, che possono tuttavia essere ribaltate per andare a ricercare quell’empatia e quel sentimento umano che troppo spesso dimentichiamo. E’ sempre interessante notare come Hyuro lavori duramente attraverso associazioni visive e illustrazioni criptiche, dove le azioni e gli oggetti simbolici della schiavitù intellettiva diventano parte attiva del ragionamento e delle idee discusse dall’artista.

Hyuro ha iniziato la sua carriera dipingendo su tela e tuttora continua a produrre dipinti e disegni, ma negli ultimi anni si è concentrata principalmente su interventi outdoor che l’hanno portata a stabilirsi come una delle più interessanti e innovative street artist europee. Già nel 2014, infatti, Hyuro ha realizzato un’importante opera nella città di Mosca, come unica protagonista femminile della prima Biennale Di Street Art Internazionale tenutasi in Russia. L’anno successivo, invece, per un intervento organizzato da Madrid Street Art Project per la metro di Madrid, Hyuro ha proposto una pungente riflessione sulla figura femminile nella sua ordinarietà, delineando un percorso approfondito di analisi sociale ed antropologica.
