“Nothing personal”

Mentre vago per il mondo vedo tantissime cose che mi riempiono di stupore.
Per molto tempo il mio lavoro d'artista voleva fare da specchio per la gente.
Finché qualcuno mi ha detto di non riuscire a penetrare e a comprendere il mio mondo. Chiaramente avevo fallito nel mio scopo e dovevo cercare di rendere lo specchio trasparente.
Ho smesso di puntare il dito ed ho scelto come punto di partenza il mio stupore nei confronti del mondo.
Innumerevoli sono le domande che possono dare origine ad un dipinto.
“Quella madre ama il suo bambino?”
“Ai cani piace prendere il sole come ai loro padroni?”
“L'uomo al telefono si accorge com'è bella la magnolia in fiore?”
Solitudine, isolamento, ritiro, inconsapevolezza e molti altri problemi fondamentali sono temi ricorrenti nel mio lavoro.
Non perché io voglia additarli, ma perché ne vedo e ne provo tanti io stessa.
Amo tutto ciò che è vita intensamente e, attraverso la mia pittura, vorrei trasmettere a tutti libertà, condivisione e luminose risate.

While I roam around in the world, I see so many things that fill me with amazement.
For a long time I wanted to hold a mirror in front of people through my work.
Until somebody told me that he could not gain access to my world. Clearly I had failed in my goal and I needed to give transparency to the mirror.
I abandoned the finger-pointing and chose my amazement as starting point.
Countless issues can be the fundation for a painting.
"Does that mother love her child?" " Do dogs enjoy sunbathing as much as their owner?" "Does the man on the phone see how beautifully the magnolia tree blooms?"
Solitude, isolation, withdrawal, unawareness and more of these underlying issues are recurring themes in my work.
Not because I want to point a finger at them, but because I see and feel so many of them myself.
I intensely love everything that lives and through painting I want to give everybody freedom, connectedness and sparkling laughter.

BIOGRAFIA

Astrid Oudheusden, 11 aprile 1967, Lochem

Da quando ho finito l’Accademia (1987-1992 Hogeschool van Amsterdam) mi sono dedicata alla pittura. Il mio desiderio più grande era quello di scoprire tutti i segreti della pittura ad olio. Ora però questi sembrano aumentare sempre di più, come accade sempre quando si tratta di segreti… La pittura ad olio è la tecnica più difficile per me. Con gli acrilici, gli inchiostri e altri materiali non ho alcun problema. Sarà questo il motivo per cui continuo a dipingere ad olio.
Essere pittrice mi dà la possibilità di osservare il mondo, le persone che lo popolano e di trasportare ciò che osservo in piccole scene teatrali. (Ero indecisa se diventare una pittrice o un attrice…) Adoro osservare le persone, ascoltarle e trasformare l’insieme in un dipinto o un disegno. Spesso sono ossessionata da un soggetto specifico: i ritratti, la pubertà, donne solitarie, impiegati. L’unico modo per gestire un ossessione è dipingere. Ho dipinto tante serie intere: Mille Facce, Americani, Eroi, Pubertà, Donne con i Cani, Impiegati Eroi.
I miei lavori vengono realizzati in un grande studio nelle periferie di Amsterdam, vicino al centro ma allo stesso tempo abbastanza lontano da garantirmi un luogo di lavoro tranquillo e silenzioso. Dalla mia finestra vedo sia le navi giganti ormeggiate nel porto sia la fabbrica di nuvole.

Since finishing art school I dedicated my time to painting. It was my strongest desire to unravel all the secrets of oil paint. Now, the secrets seem to grow, as is often the case with them... Oil paint is the hardest medium for me. With acrylics, inks and other stuff I have no trouble at all. Must be the reason why I keep being drawn to the oils.
Being a painter offers me the possibility to watch the world, its people and turn all these observations into small theatrical settings. (I had to chose between becoming a painter and an actress) I love watching people, listen to them and transform all that into one painting or drawing.
Often I become obsessed with a subject: portraits, puberty, lonely women, office workers. The only way to handle the obsession is to paint. I've painted a lot of series altogether: Thousand Faces, Americans, Heroes, Puberty, Women with Dogs, Office Heroes.
My work is created in a big studio at the outskirts of Amsterdam, close to the city centre, but with enough distance to guarantee a calm and silent worksphere. From my windows I see the gigantic ships in the harbour and the cloud factory!
