KEEP WRONG è il titolo della prima esposizione personale di Khashayar Naimanan, introdotta da Ron Arad e curata da Matteo Noire per Noire Lab.
Naimanan usa tratti ironici, pop e trasgressivi, per creare oggetti che perdono la loro funzione primaria per trasformarsi nel tassello di un progetto più ampio e anticonvenzionale che ci chiede di mantenere sbagliato …keep wrong .. come suggerisce l’artista. Ça ne vaut pas un clou (espressione usata spesso dai francesi per dire non vale un chiodo), dal progetto Hidden Wealth presentato al MoMA nel 2005 , nasce dall’idea di nascondere un oggetto di poco valore in un contenitore di poco conto, per mascherarlo ma allo stesso tempo enfatizzandone il valore stesso. Una scatola di chiodi allora, diventa il luogo perfetto per contenere preziosi chiodi realizzati in oro e argento….che invita lo spettatore a rivalutare preconcetti ponendo attenzione a quello che è nascosto e quindi non visibile all’osservatore. Ron Arad Toy è un pupazzo che ritrae il famoso designer e.. attenzione viene anche fornito con la miniatura della celebre sedia Little Albert dalle linee curve in flusso continuo. A4, il formato di carta più diffuso, diventa una leggera lampada in porcellana che vola nello spazio. Used and Empty è una serie di piccoli vasi la cui forma prende ispirazione da un gruppo di amici scanzonati seduti sul muretto che accavallano le gambe e incrociano le braccia. La qualità trasgressiva che proviene dal background di Khashayar Naimanan e gli atti di vandalismo artistico influenzano ancora oggi la sua pratica – l’utilizzo e l’alterazione di oggetti trovati sovvertono le narrazioni familiari per reinventare una nuova prospettiva estetica. Ron Arad scrive:’’ Ero molto emozionato quando ho saputo che uno degli intervistati per l’application al Royal College of Art era un artista di graffiti e non ho cancellato l’intervista quando Khashayar mi ha confessato che aveva spruzzato il top del mio Totem a Milano un paio di anni prima … E’ stato interessante vederlo inventare i suoi progetti: la giacca per taccheggiatori, il dispositivo che sconvolge i codici a barre nei supermercati, scambiando i prezzi del vino molto economici con quelli molto costosi, o chiodi di platino per appendere quadri molto più economici che i chiodi stessi. Inoltre, sono molto affezionato al giocattolo, che è la mia versione in miniatura...’’.

Khashayar Naimanan, nato nel 1976 a Londra ( dove attualmente vive e lavora) da genitori giapponesi e iraniani. Ha studiato Product Design al Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design a Londra e successivamente si è trasferito a Monaco di Baviera dove ha lavorato in un laboratorio di metalli. Nel 2003 ha completato il suo master presso il Royal College of Art di Londra, dove è stato allievo di Ron Arad. Il suo lavoro di artista e designer spazia da pezzi in studio realizzati a mano , mobili per installazioni su larga scala e grandi pitture come quelle presentate alla Biennale di Venezia nel 2015. La sua opera è stata esposta in Musei e gallerie in tutto il mondo (MoMA di New York, V1 Contemporary Art Center di Copenhagen, Design Museum di Londra, ecc). Ha collaborato a lungo con i progettisti industriali Kram / Weisshaar su progetti celebri come OUTRACE e ROBOCHOP. La sua collezione di ceramiche da tavola ‘’ Incognito’’ sono state prodotte dalla manifattura di porcellane di Nymphenburg .

KEEP WRONG is Khashayar Naimanan’s first solo exhibition introduced by Ron Arad and crated by Matteo Noire for Noire Lab.
Naimanan uses playful and subversive twists to create objects that move away from their primary function toward an unconventional and inverted perspective that demands us to Keep Wrong rather than right. Ça ne vaut pas un clou is based on the French expression for a worthless item and originates from the Hidden Wealth project presented at MoMA in 2005. Here Naimanan hides
precious objects among those of little perceived value to both mask and emphasise their true worth. Cast silver and gold nails are hidden in boxes of ordinary nails, inviting viewers to reassess preconceived notions of value and pay attention to that which is hidden from view. Ron Arad Toy is an action figure of the acclaimed designer that comes packaged with a miniature replica of the iconic Little Albert chair. A4 uses the most common paper size as a departure point for a delicate porcelain lamp that seems to levitate in space. Used & Empty is a series of small anthropomorphic vessels displayed as a group of friends lounging on a wall with crossed legs and arms. Naimanan’s background in graffiti and artistic vandalism still influence his work today - using and altering found objects to overturn familiar narratives and present a more challenging aesthetic perspective. Ron Arad writes:’’I was really emotional when I found out that one of the applicants for
the Royal College of Art was a graffiti artist and I did not cancel the interview when Khashayar confessed that he had sprayed the top of my Totem in Milan a few years earlier...It was interesting to see him invent his projects: a jacket for shoplifters, a device which disrupts the bar codes in supermarkets, swapping the prices of economic wines with more expensive ones, or platinum nails used to hang picture frames which were much cheaper than the nails themselves. I am also very fond of the toy which is a miniature version of me…’’.
NOIRE LAB is Noire Gallery’s eclectic contemporary programme curated by Matteo Noire. A new exhibition space for Noire Lab is scheduled to open in 2018.
KHASHAYAR NAIMANAN (*1976) was born in London to parents of Japanese and Iranian origin. He studied Product Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London and then moved to Munich where he trained as a metal worker. In 2003 he completed his masters degree at the Royal College of Art in London, where he studied under Ron Arad. His work as an artist and designer ranges from hand-crafted studio pieces and furniture to large scale installations and paintings seen at the 56th Venice Biennale (2015). His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide, such as MoMA NewYork, V1 Contemporary Art Centre in Copenhagen and Design Museum London among others.
He has collaborated extensively with designers Kram/Weisshaar on widely celebrated projects such as OUTRACE and ROBOCHOP. The royal Bavarian porcelain
manufacturer Nymphenburg produces his luxury tableware designs. Naimanan currently lives and works in London.
