L’Istituto Svizzero a Milano presenta “Out to Lunch”, una doppia personale degli artisti Emanuel Rossetti (Basilea) e Kim Seob Boninsegni (Ginevra).

“Out to Lunch”, collaborazione inedita tra gli artisti, presenta nuovi lavori in un ambiente in cui il tempo e lo spazio sono stati distorti e all’apparenza intrecciati.

Nella sala principale un’impalcatura cattura l’attenzione dello spettatore alterando la sua percezione. Dieci lightbox presentano i lavori di entrambi gli artisti. I lavori di Boninsegni giocano con la sua identità: si scorgono raffigurazioni di dettagli di ristoranti asiatici. Rossetti trasforma digitalmente semplici oggetti in fotografie dal paesaggio surreale.

Nella seconda sala lo spazio è pervaso da un‘installazione sonora di Boninsegni. L’artista occupa temporaneamente e ‘abusivamente’ la sala; l’installazione sarà successivamente sostituita con il suo nuovo lavoro Casa Pagoda, un film di fantascienza astratto che verrà proiettato per la prima volta l’11 ottobre.

“Out to Lunch” evoca un’immagine di movimento lento. Suggerisce metaforicamente la sospensione del tempo e gioca con l’idea di imminenza. L’impalcatura centrale ha la funzione di estendere il concetto di tempo, invitando lo spettatore a riflettere sul suo significato; allo stesso tempo, i neon, rinnovano l’eterno dilemma de ‘L’uovo o la gallina’.

Kim Seob Boninsegni (Seoul, 1974) vive e lavora a Ginevra. Il suo lavoro spazia tra diversi medium, dal video al disegno, dalla scrittura alla performance o installazione. Ha partecipato a numerose esposizioni personali e collettive in Svizzera e all'estero. Le sue performance sono state messe in scena presso istituzioni come il Théâtre de l’Usine a Ginevra nel 2011. Il recente lungometraggio di fiction Occupy the Pool, uscito nel 2015, é stato presentato durante vari festival europei.

Emanuel Rossetti (Basilea, 1987) vive e lavora a Basilea. Sue principali esposizioni personali sono state presentate nel 2017 alla Svetlana Gallery di New York, alla galleria Karma International a Zurigo nel 2016 e a Los Angeles nel 2015 e nel 2014 al Modern Institute di Glasgow. Oltre a numerose partecipazioni a mostre presso istituzioni internazionali, la Kunsthalle di Berna gli ha dedicato nel 2014 un'esposizione personale dal titolo Delay Dust.

The Istituto Svizzero in Milan is pleased to present “Out to Lunch”, a two-person exhibition by Swiss based artists Emanuel Rossetti (Basel) and Kim Seob Boninsegni (Geneva).

“Out to Lunch” is the first collaboration between the artists and brings together new bodies of work to a place where time and space are distorted, seemingly woven within one another.
In the main room scaffolding activates attention and disturbs the viewer’s perception. Ten lightboxes present the works by both artists. Boninsegni's works play on his identity with glimpses of details in Asian restaurants. Rossetti digitally renders mere objects into photographs of a surreal landscape.
In the second room a sound installation by Boninsegni pervades the space. The artist temporarily ‘squats’ the room; the installation will then provide the space for his new work Casa Pagoda, an abstract science- fiction film which will premiere on the 11th of October.

“Out to Lunch” conjures an image of slow movement. It offers a metaphor for the suspension of time and plays with ideas of proximity. The central scaffolding structure functions to extend time, upholding it, inviting you to rethink its very definition; the neons, instead, renovate the eternal question of 'The Chicken or the Egg'.

Kim Seob Boninsegni (b. Seoul 1974) lives and works in Geneva. The artist uses a wide range of mediums, from video to drawing, writing, performance or installation. Boninsegni has been part of numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Switzerland and worldwide. His performances have been shown in institutions such as the Théâtre de l’Usine, Geneva (2011). His recent feature film Occupy the Pool (2015) has been screened at various European festivals.

Emanuel Rossetti (b. Basel 1987) lives and works in Basel. Recent significant solo shows include: Svetlana Gallery, New York (2017), Karma International, Zurich (2016), Karma International, Los Angeles (2015), and the Modern Institute of Glasgow (2014). Rossetti has exhibited in numerous Institutional shows all over the world; the most significant one was his solo show at Kunsthalle Bern, "Delay Dust".
