NO MAN'S LAND Contrada Rotacesta - Loreto Aprutino (PE) - Italy

Sabato 31 Agosto ore 17.00 NO MAN’S LAND FOUNDATION inaugurerà a Contrada Rotacesta (Loreto Aprutino) l’installazione permanente site specific Solid Ground dell’artista nativo americano Jimmie Durham, insignito del Leone d’Oro alla Carriera alla Biennale di Venezia di quest’anno. Solido non è solamente il terreno sul quale poggia un’antica porta a due ante che apre sul centro del nostro pianeta, a bilanciare un’epoca proiettata verso programmi spaziali. Solida è anche la costellazione a No Man’s Land in Contrada Rotacesta che ospita già diversi progetti di Yona Friedman con Jean-Baptiste Decavèle, nonché l’installazione permanente Pian de Pian Piano di Alvin Curran e che l’anno scorso ha visto la partecipazione di Gianfranco Baruchello con il suo progetto Adozione di una Pecora. E in atto quindi un processo di ACCUMULAZIONI che aggiunge senza togliere il precedente e contrasta fortemente con una cultura del usa e getta. Riprende in forma laica una tradizione presente nelle antiche chiese e cappelle italiane dove si mescolavono periodi storici e stili artistici.
Le opere d’arte esistono nell’ambito di altre opere d’arte e in questa circostanza si distinguono come affermazioni individuali, specifiche (…) è di grande importanza dare alle opere l’opportunità di godersi la reciproca compagnia. Domenica 1 Settembre alle ore 10.30 avrà luogo, presso il parco dell’Hotel Villa Maria di Francavilla al
Mare, una Tavola Rotonda con la tematica La Natura della Cultura indicata da Jimmie Durham e Maria Thereza Alves con la partecipazione di Pascal Beausse, Lorenzo Benedetti, Chiara Bertola, Riccardo Giagni, Pasquale Tunzi … moderata dalla storica dell’arte Cecilia Casorati.

Saturday 31stAugust at 17.00 NO MAN’S LAND FOUNDATION will present in Contrada Rotacesta (Loreto Aprutino, Italy) the permanent site specific installation Solid Ground by the native American artist Jimmie Durham, honoured with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at this year’s Venice Biennale. Solid is not only the ground upon which rests an old double-leaf door opening onto the centre of our planet, balancing an age projected towards space programmes. Solid too is the constellation in No Man’s Land in Contrada Rotacesta that already plays host to various projects by Yona Friedman with Jean-Baptiste Decavèle, not to mention the permanent installation Pian de Pian Piano by Alvin Curran,and that last year saw the participation of Gianfranco Baruchello with his project Adozione di una Pecora (Adoption of a Sheep). As such, a process of ACCUMULATIONS is underway, adding without removing the predecessor and
contrasting strongly with this throwaway culture. This recalls, non-religiously, a tradition that is present in old Italian churches and chapels in which historical periods and artistic styles mix with ease.
Works of art exist within the scope of other works of art and in this circumstance they are distinguished as individual, specific affirmations(…) but it is of great importance to give artworks the opportunity to enjoy reciprocal company. Sunday 1st September at 10.30 there will be, in the park of the Villa Maria Hotel in Francavilla al Mare, a Round Table dedicated to the theme Nature of Culture suggested by Jimmie Durham and Maria Thereza Alves with the participation of Pascal Beausse, Lorenzo Benedetti, Chiara Bertola, Riccardo Giagni, Pasquale Tunzi... moderated by the art historian Cecilia Casorati.
