Veda è lieta di presentare Lithromantic, la seconda mostra personale di Damon Zucconi in galleria dal 14 febbraio al 28 marzo 2020. La mostra inaugurerà venerdì 14 febbraio 2020 alle 19.00.

Un individuo potrebbe apprezzare il far parte di una relazione romantica, ma solo teoricamente: un lithromantic — dal greco lith (pietra).

Lo spazio principale della galleria diventa un plenum generato dalla nebbia e dalla luce che ne occupano il volume — una sorta di fusione scultorea. Generalmente le vetrine dei negozi rappresentano un luogo di desiderio potenziale o sospeso; qui, attraverso l’intervento di Zucconi, la vetrina della galleria sospende il rapporto di reciprocità tra lo sguardo degli spettatori e lo spazio espositivo.

Nel retro della galleria sono installate due stampe e uno specchio.

Le stampe sono state realizzate utilizzando un software personalizzato che combina le immagini senza generare cambiamenti di opacità. Il processo intreccia le immagini in un nuovo intero: un’apparizione spettrale di totalità; una vista d’insieme.

Uno specchio - le cui dimensioni sono sufficienti per racchiudere un busto umano - ha un buco praticato lì dove apparirebbe la testa. Questo suggerisce l’allegoria di una paura comune: lo sfasamento tra il riflesso della propria immagine e il proprio corpo; una riflessione mancante. Mentre continuiamo a muoverci, il vuoto rimane immobile.

Veda is pleased to present Lithromantic, the second solo exhibition by Damon Zucconi on view from February 14, to March 28, 2020. Please join us for the opening on Friday, February 14, 2020, at 7.00 pm.

One might enjoy being in romantic relationships, but only theoretically: a lithromantic — from the Greek lithos meaning stone.

The main exhibition space acts as a plenum generated by fog and light which occupy the volume — a kind of sculptural casting. Storefront windows generally represent a place of potential or suspended desire; here, through Zucconi’s intervention, the front window suspends the relation of reciprocity within the viewers and the exhibition space.

In the backroom of the gallery, two prints and a mirror are installed.

The prints have been realized using custom software which interlaces images without changes in opacity. The process weaves the images together into a new whole: a ghostly apparition of a totality; seeing everything at once.

A portrait-oriented mirror — the dimensions of which are sufficient to encompass a human torso — has a hole punched out of it where one’s head might appear. This echoes a common horror trope: the decoupling of one’s mirror image with one’s body; a missing reflection. As we continue to move the void remains still.
