Chapter Xlll of Journal presents, on streaming for three days only, THE CHOCOLATE BAR by Bethan Huws. The artist works with watercolours, drawings, wall texts, installations, sculpture and film to make unexpected links in our daily experiences. Her works have the potential to project us into another time and space, and the ability to alter our perception. Her own personal memories and cultural identity are at the heart of her poetic works of art. She is interested in subtly altering our experience of spaces to create sites for contemplation.

THE CHOCOLATE BAR is a short film that includes three personas, three locations and a host of camera angles. The actor Rhys Ifans plays himself and two characters, or so it seems. With a reflection of Welsh culture and its actors, in film, theatre and literature, THE CHOCOLATE BAR is an extraordinary still-life.

Bethan Huws (1961, Bangor, Wales) lives and works in Berlin. Hes work has been internationally exhibited in galleries and museums and is included in prestigious collections worldwide.

L’artista lavora con acquerelli, disegni, testi murali, installazioni, scultura e film per creare collegamenti inaspettati con le nostre esperienze di vita quotidiana. Le sue opere hanno la capacità di alterare la nostra percezione e ci proiettano in un altro tempo e spazio. Al centro della sua poetica sono i ricordi personali e l’identità culturale e l’interesse a modificare leggermente la nostra esperienza degli spazi per creare nuovi luoghi di contemplazione.

THE CHOCOLATE BAR è un cortometraggio che include tre personaggi, tre luoghi e diverse angolazioni di ripresa. L’attore Rhys Ifans interpreta se stesso e due personaggi, o almeno così sembra. Con riferimento alla cultura gallese e ai protagonisti del cinema, teatro e letteratura, THE CHOCOLATE BAR è uno straordinario still-life.

Bethan Huws (1961, Bangor, Wales) vive e lavora a Berlino. Il suo lavoro è stato presentato nei musei di tutto il mondo ed è presente nelle principali collezioni pubbliche e private.
