“Ho dipinto un quadro poco intelligente. Che si capisce subito non appena lo vedi. Un quadro buono per andarci la domenica al mare, un quadro buono da mangiare. È un quadro poco irriverente. Insomma un quadro come me, che ho perso tutti i denti. Un quadro per chi non ha voglia di abbaiare o di ringhiare, un quadro tanto per pittare.”

Zazà Ramen sake bar & restaurant, in collaborazione con la galleria UNA di Piacenza, è felice di presentare Usva Utu Sumu di Thomas Berra, un grande wall painting dal carattere onirico e evocativo che si sviluppa lungo le pareti della sala da pranzo del ristorante e che accompagnerà i suoi avventori a partire da settembre 2021.

Nelle opere di Berra, milanese di nascita e finlandese di adozione, il tema vegetale incontra paesaggi onirici, animati da soggetti che sembrano provenire da un mondo fiabesco e incantato, in cui l'uomo è tutt'uno con la natura, in un senso di comunione perfetta. Il sogno - un sogno di felliniana memoria - è un elemento fondamentale del lavoro dell’artista e forte è il richiamo a Il Libro dei Sogni del grande regista.
Il titolo del progetto, Usva Utu Sumu, indica le tre terminologie usate in finlandese per descrivere la nebbia: nell'intervento site-specific per il locale di via Solferino una serie di figure mascherate sembrano fluttuare sulla parete, colte in un’immaginaria conversazione ambientata in un giardino incantato costituito da piante e fiori misteriosi. Alla consueta tavolozza improntata sul verde che caratterizza i lavori di Berra, vengono qui affiancati i toni del giallo, del rosso, dell’arancione e dell’azzurro, e si fa chiara l’influenza dei colori che animano i paesaggi e la natura nei dintorni di Helsinki, dove Thomas ora vive e lavora.

A far incontrare Thomas e Brendan Becht, proprietario di Zazà Ramen, collezionista e promotore del progetto, non è solo l’amore per l’arte e la pittura, ma anche la passione per la cucina e per la condivisione del cibo come momento di socialità, di dialogo e di scoperta reciproca. Per omaggiare il Ramen, piatto di origini giapponesi e specialità della cucina di Zazà, l’artista ha creato una serie di ciotole in ceramica, identiche come forma e dimensione a quelle utilizzate nel locale, dipinte a mano con motivi che riprendono il wall painting a parete. Si rafforza in questo modo la connessione tra arte, cibo e il momento conviviale del pasto, offrendo agli amanti della cucina e dell’arte un’occasione unica di incontro e di scambio.

Zazà Ramen sake bar & restaurant, together with UNA Gallery from Piacenza, is happy to announce Usva Utu Sumu by Thomas Berra, a wide, evocative, and dreamlike wall painting that runs along the walls of the restaurant dining room and that will accompany its clients from September 2021.

In the artworks by Berra, born in Milan and currently living in Finland, greenery meets dreamlike landscapes, animated by subjects that seem to come from a fairy-tale or an enchanted world, where man is one with nature, in a sense of perfect community. Dreams are an essential element in Berra’s work. The artist, strongly inspired by the dreams present in Fellini’s movies, recalls the Italian director’s movie Il Libro dei Sogni in his work. The title of the site-specific intervention for the restaurant in Via Solferino is Usva Utu Sumu, three Finnish terms that describe the word “fog”. Here, a series of masked figures seem to float on the wall, caught in a fictional conversation set in a magical garden, surrounded by mysterious plants and flowers. The usual green palette that characterises Berra's work is here complemented by yellow, red, orange, and light blue; the influence of the colours that animate the landscapes and nature around Helsinki, where Thomas now lives and works, becomes clear.

What brought together Thomas and Brendan Becht, the owner of Zazà Ramen, collector, and promoter of the project, was not only their love for art and painting, but also their passion for cooking and for sharing food as a moment of sociability, dialogue, and mutual discovery. To pay tribute to Ramen, the Japanese dish and the specialty of Zazà's cuisine, the artist has created a series of ceramic bowls, identical in shape and size to those used in the restaurant, hand painted with elements that recall the wall painting. Thus, the connection between art, food, and the convivial moment of eating together is reinforced, giving a unique opportunity for meeting up and sharing to those who love both food and art.
