Comunicato stampa

Spazio Sale is a multifunctional centre for the development and promotion of contemporary arts, a cultural project produced and curated by the contemporary art gallery AA29 art project. The venue is an early 20th-century building, located in the centre of Lecce.

Spazio Sale takes root in its host territory, Salento, to flourish and extend its branches both nationally and internationally. It is a fluid place of research and action, participation and innovation, open to artist residencies, installations and site-specific exhibitions, sound experimentation, workshops and independent publications; designed to create connections and foster the development of relationships between artists, curators, critics, philosophers, collectors, art lovers, visitors, tourists, students and the curious, who together will nourish the soul of the project.

The name derives from the symbolic meaning of salt: fidelity, wisdom, friendship and an enduring and incorruptible alliance. In various traditions, it was customary to bring salt to a new house as a good omen. Salt is the element that provides life with flavour, which purifies and preserves from corruption.
The annual programme is divided into six different sections:
- solo and group exhibitions
- performances
- talks: conferences and debates on art
- video reviews;
workshops
- artist residencies

On Saturday 27 May 2023, at 6 pm, Spazio Sale inaugurates "Il rumore dell'alba / The Sound of Dawn", a group exhibition curated by Sasha Vinci and Gerardo Giurin, presenting works by Anna Capolupo, Daniele Franzella, Lucas Memmola, Luigi Presicce, Matilde Sambo and Sasha Vinci.
The collaboration between an artist and a gallerist, in the understanding of the critical approach towards this first exhibition, as well as the mission behind this new arts centre, represents the hybrid and experimental nature that Spazio Sale intends to pursue.

The Gallery of Spazio Sale will become one of AA29 art project’s exhibition venues and will manage and coordinate all its artistic programming.

Inside the building, there is also an art bookshop with independent publications, art catalogues and artefacts made by Muse, a creative workshop of art and design objects.
The top floor of Spazio Sale has been conceived as a roof garden, an open-air terrace with a wonderful roof garden and an art café. This area, managed by Studio 47, is a Mediterranean oasis immersed in an atmosphere of sounds, aromas, and lights; a place to relax and rewind whilst attending events of various kinds: poetry readings, literary performances, conferences, tastings, and live concerts.
