The exhibition continues the investigation initiated last year into the public role of cultural institutions in times of global crisis. After Biennale 2020’s postponement, “Open?” has been moved online with an ongoing programme of movie screenings, audio-visual pieces, and other commissioned projects. This year’s exhibition carries on this investigation, further addressing cultural institutions’ identity through multiple perspectives such as their physical architecture and people, with a focus on digital environments.
For the occasion, the pavilion underwent a physical renovation by KASA Architects, with a new pavilion flag designed by the Russian design collective Electric Red and installed in the renovated space.
An online programme also airs on pavilionrus.com linking this edition to the 2022 Art Biennale.
