58. Biennale – Swinguerra
Il progetto Swinguerra rappresenta il Brasile alla Biennale di Venezia.
Comunicato stampa
The artist duo Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca have been invited by curator Gabriel Pérez-Barreiro for this year's Biennale to debut a newly commissioned installation composed of a two-channel video and a portrait series, entitled Swinguerra. The project's title is taken from swingueira, a popular dance movement in Recife, northeast of Brazil, fused with the word guerra, meaning war.
Wagner and de Burca's work focuses on the powerful expressions of popular culture in contemporary Brazil, and their complex relationship to international and local traditions. Swinguerra provides a deep and empathetic view of contemporary Brazilian culture.
