DOUBLE|U è la seconda mostra personale del giovane artista italiano ADR, a cura di Tiziano Tancredi in programma dal 13 ottobre al 7 novembre 2017 presso la Parione9 Gallery di Roma. Dopo The Bestiary, inaugurata nel febbraio 2016, l’artista pugliese presenta un nuovo progetto dedicato alla classicità e alla figura femminile.
Il nome della mostra, DOUBLE|U, trascrizione della pronuncia della lettera W dell'alfabeto inglese, rimanda a due “W”: la prima riferita allo storico e critico d’arte Aby Warburg e alla volontà di ricollegarsi al suo concetto di “Nachleben der Antiken”, ovvero di “sopravvivenza dell'antico”. La seconda a “Woman” cioè alla scelta di ritrarre esclusivamente delle donne.
La classicità, fonte inesauribile di ispirazione per gli artisti dalla civiltà greco-romana, passando attraverso il Rinascimento e il Neoclassicismo, è sopravvissuta sino ai giorni nostri. In DOUBLE|U i punti di contatto con i riferimenti classici della mitologia esistono ma al contempo sono volutamente frammentari a favore di una libera reinterpretazione dei soggetti in chiave contemporanea.
All'interno del suo sviluppo progettuale, di cui fanno parte tele e piccoli ritratti su carta, ADR ha aggiunto un ulteriore medium tecnico, quello della polaroid: ogni opera è il risultato del ritratto fotografico di ogni modella. Questo passaggio autoreferenziale genera un rapporto quasi simbiotico tra fotografia e tela e, inserendo un'altra variante del mito nel circuito di immagini, porta alle estreme conseguenze il Nachleben warburghiano.
In occasione di DOUBLE|U ADR, sempre fedele alla sua attività di street artist, ha affisso poster in grande formato delle sue donne per i vicoli del centro di Roma.

DOUBLE|U is the second personal exhibition of the young Italian street artist ADR, curated by Tiziano Tancredi and planned from October 13th to November 7th at the Parione9 Gallery in Rome. Following The Bestiary, an exhibition opened in February 2016, the southern Italian artist presents a new project dedicated to the classicality and the female figure. The name of the exhibition, DOUBLE|U, that is the transcription of the pronunciation of the letter W, reminds of two Ws: the first refers to Aby Warburg, an historian and art critic who created the idea of the Nachleben der Antiken, namely “survival of the classic age”. The second W refers to “Woman”, namely the decision to exclusively represent women.
The classicality, inexhaustible source for Greek-Roman artists, survived to this day although it went through the renaissance and the neoclassicism. In DOUBLE|U, there are references to the Greek mythology, even though they are purposely fragmented in favour of a free interpretation of the subjects in a contemporary version.
Inside the development of ADR’s project, another medium was added, the Polaroid: every artwork is the result of the model’s Polaroid portrait. Using this method, the transformation from the photo to the canvas or small paper portrait adds another mythological variation to the image. This whole process takes Warburg’s Nachleben to its maximum expression.
ADR stays true to his street artist nature, therefore he affixed posters portraying his women throughout the alleys of the centre of Rome.
