Mercoledì 3 novembre, alle ore 15:00, Quartz Studio è lieto di presentare Worms, la prima personale italiana dell’artista inglese Alice Channer (Oxford, GB, 1977) con un testo critico di Eva Brioschi. Il titolo della mostra “Worms” – dichiara l’artista – è quello di una delle sculture. L’ho intitolata come gli importantissimi animaletti che vivono sottoterra, il cui lavoro di rado viene riconosciuto dalle catene produttive dei vertebrati. Molti dei materiali e delle forme provengono dal suolo (sassi, sabbia, fossili, metallo) e sono stati estratti in occasione della mostra. Le forze trainanti sono la gravità e l’antigravità, le dimensioni sono svariate, dall’enorme al minuscolo.

Alice Channer (Oxford, UK, 1977) vive e lavora alla periferia di Londra. Immagina il suo lavoro come una sorta di Process Art del XXI secolo. Si serve della scultura per tendere, rallentare e accelerare i processi produttivi industriali e postindustriali. Le sue opere rendono infatti tali processi più visibili a lei e agli altri e rendono noi consapevoli della presenza di numerose incarnazioni e disincarnazioni. Usando materiali che vanno dai gusci di granchio e dall’acciaio inossidabile alla plastica ridotta in pellet e riciclata fino alla seta plissettata, Channer segue la scomparsa, la trasformazione e la possibile evoluzione di svariati corpi negli ambienti postindustriali. On Wednesday November 3, at 3:00 p.m. Quartz Studio is pleased to present Worms, the first solo show in Italy by the British artist Alice Channer (Oxford, UK, 1977), with a critical text by Eva Brioschi. The artist says, “The show is called 'Worms', the title of one of the sculptures. I titled the show 'Worms' after small and significant animals that live underground, whose labour is rarely acknowledged by vertebrate production chains. Many of the materials and forms come from underground (rocks, sand, fossils, metal), and have been brought above ground for the exhibition. It is guided by gravity and anti-gravity, and different kinds of scale vast and tiny.

Alice Channer (Oxford, UK, 1977) lives and works in the edges of London, UK. Channer's forms and materials are found in the social and sensual worlds of industrial and organic processes. Over long periods of time, she immerses herself in industrial and natural materials and production processes to find forms within them that she develops as sculpture. Her method is both experimental and precise, collaborating with people, machines, and materials to bring multiple bodies and voices into her polyphonic works.
