Lo spazio d'arte contemporanea la rada a Locarno ha una nuova sede permanente, posta tra la grande rotonda e il FEVI, lungo il percorso principale del pubblico più affezionato al festival, quello che cerca di vedere in primis i film in concorso. Sfruttando la nuova location strategica, la rada si apre al pubblico con due eventi artistici eclatanti: un'esposizione nella propria sede ed una videoinstallazione presso il Teatro dei Fauni, anch'esso sito al secondo piano della Centrale Swisscom, in via alla Morettina 2.
Venerdì 7 agosto si aprirà la prima esposizione in Svizzera italiana di un giovane artista originario del Giura, già operante internazionalmente con mostre realizzate anche in istituzioni museali: Augustin Rebetez (1986).
La sua personale avrà il fantasmagorico titolo Post-Epileptic Vids and Krautshots – A show warranted without white walls in cui tutte le pareti dei white spaces della nostra sede attuale saranno coperte da stampe giganti di suoi disegni e di fotografie di sue “messe in scena”. In ogni opera rivela uno stile assai peculiare e riconoscibile, in cui il grottesco assume molteplici facce e riferimenti temporali: dalla preistoria al cyber.
Rebetez fin da giovanissimo ha accatastato in gran quantità scritti, disegni e fotografie. Poi ha cominciato ad animarli, in filmati basati sulla tecnica stop motion, dove ha potuto sfruttare anche la sua capacità plastica nel creare esseri umanoidi e piccoli mostri. Come nel teatro arcaico, nei suoi tableaux vivents la maschera diviene persona, espressione di stati d'animo e caratteri specifici, ma di lettura nel suo caso sempre ambigua, mai a senso unico. Persona carismatica e dagli interessi multiformi – per esempio anche nella musica – Augustin Rebetez ha sovente realizzato progetti artistici non da solo ma in collettivo con altri giovani.
Le sale espositive della rada saranno completamente coperte di suoi segni ed icone - anche tramite due video - e sul posto Rebetez realizzerà un'installazione composta di materiali di recupero.
Quest'esposizione fa parte del progetto Jeunesse d'Ivoire, relativo alla scena artistica svizzera emergente, curato da Riccardo Lisi e reso possibile da Pro Helvetia.
Durante il festival la mostra sarà visibile ogni giorno dalle 17 alle 22, successivamente dal giovedì alla domenica, dalle 14 alle 19, fino al 30 agosto.

Invece, nelle notti di sabato 8 e venerdì 14 sarà possibile assistere, presso il Teatro dei Fauni, alle prémières di The nothingness wandering out of the self, videoinstallazione dei giovani artisti locarnesi Denise Fernandes e Rafael Kouto (entrambi del 1990), prodotta da la rada. Ispirata dall'opera incompiuta "Le fantasticherie del passeggiatore solitario" scritto da Jean-Jacques Rousseau e ambientata alla fine del XVIII secolo, la videoinstallazione conduce in un mondo sospeso, in un fantastico vagare, nel quale i protagonisti si fondono in un continuo trascorrere.
In seguito ai continui cambiamenti, climatici e sociologici, il rapportarsi con la natura non ha certezza per le generazioni future. Il concetto stesso di natura si trasforma, ormai intoccabile e causa di un senso d’insoddisfazione incolmabile. La capacità di errare, fantasticare, passeggiare e di dimenticare se stessi verte sul rapporto meditativo tra il proprio io e la natura nell'era digitale. Il confine tra se stessi e la natura non è mai stato più incerto che in questo futuro sconosciuto.
Il video si compone di sequenze di situazioni differenti che esprimono l’interazione dei protagonisti nell’adattarsi alla natura, da cui scaturisce una riflessione sulla propria percezione, tramite oggetti che la rappresentano all'interno di uno spazio chiuso, atemporale e monocromatico. Un progetto espositivo che continua il pensiero del passante errante, della sospensione e della sovrapposizione, coinvolgendo lo spettatore, catapultandolo in un'ambientazione immersiva e contemplativa: un'esperienza onirica.
L’intento artistico è anche quello di unire ed esplorare i codici appartenenti all’universo video e della moda all’interno di uno spazio d’arte permettendone una nuova decontestualizzazione del binomio.
Oltre che autori, la regista Denise Fernandes e il fashion designer Rafael Kouto, sono i direttori creativi di un progetto che prevede la collaborazione di diverse personalità. L'obiettivo è supportare la creatività svizzera, l'interdisciplinarità tra arte, moda e cinema, ed è un punto di partenza nel sensibilizzare il Cantone e la Confederazione ai fermenti artistici emergenti in suolo ticinese. La rada in occasione del film festival punta dunque a far incontrare da un lato varie forme d'arte, dall'altro, artisti emergenti del nostro cantone con nomi già rilevanti a livello internazionale, in un utile scambio di competenze e stili.
Entrambi gli eventi hanno ingresso libero e gratuito.

La rada – contemporary art space in Locarno – has a new permanent location situated between the big roundabout and the Fevi – the building that receives the main competition of the Film Festival – in the Centrale Swisscom, via alla Morettina 2.
During the Film Festival period, la rada opens his spaces with two great events: a solo show by Augustin Rebetez and a video installation by Denise Fernandes and Rafael Kouto, at the Teatro dei Fauni – space in the same building of la rada.

On Friday 7th of August, will open the first exhibition in Ticino of a young but well-known artist from Jura: Augustin Rebetez (1986).
Post-Epileptic Vids and Krautshots – A show warranted without white walls is the phantasmagorical name of this exhibition. Every wall will be covered with giant prints: drawings and pictures showing his mises-en-scène. Each oeuvre reveals his unique and recognisable style, where the grotesque takes multiple faces and temporal references: from the prehistoric to the cyber. Since his youth, Rebetez collects innumerable amounts of writings, drawings and pictures. He soon started animating some of this material with the use of stop motion technique using plastic figurines and small monsters created by him. Just as in archaic theatre, in his tableaux vivants the mask becomes a personification: an expression of moods and specific characters in an always ambiguous and plural interpretation. A charismatic and versatile personality – also interested in music – Augustin Rebetez has often realised collective art projects with other young people. The spaces of la rada will be covered completely by his signs and icons, and also two videos will be shown. Rebetez will also realise a site-specific installation composed by recyclable materials. This exhibition is part of the project Jeunesse d'Ivoire, which concerns itself with the situation in which Swiss emerging artists find themselves in today. This project is curated by Riccardo Lisi and made possible thanks to Pro Helvetia.
During the period of the Film Festival, the exhibition will be visible from 17 to 22. And in the following days from Thursday to Sunday until the 30th of August, from 14 to 19.

In the nights of Saturday 8th and Friday 14, at the Teatro dei Fauni it will be possible to experience The nothingness wandering out of the self, a video installation of young artists from Locarno: Denise Fernandes and Rafael Kouto (both born in 1990), produced by la rada.
Inspired by the unfinished work Reveries of a Solitary Walker written by Jean-Jacques Rousseau and set in the late eighteenth century, the video installation ensnares us in a suspended world, a fantastic wandering, in which the characters are melted into a continuous elapsing of time.
Due to constant climatic and sociological changes, the future generation's relationship with nature becomes uncertain. The concept of nature itself is transformed, becoming intangible, cause of a sense of unbridgeable dissatisfaction.
The ability of wandering, daydreaming, walking and forgetting oneself, focuses on the meditative relationship between the self and nature in the digital era. The border between nature and the self has never been more uncertain than in this unknown future.
The video is composed by sequences of different situations that express the interaction of the characters while adapting to nature. From this arises a reflection on one's own perception through objects that are represented inside a closed, timeless and monochrome space.
An exhibition project that continues the thought on the errant passer-by, on suspension and on superimposition. It involves the audience catapulting it into an immersive and contemplative setting: a dreamlike experience.
The artistic aim is also to merge and explore the codes that belong to the universe of fashion and video. These are integrated into an art space that allows a new de-contextualisation of both.
More than just authors, film director Denise Fernandes and fashion designer Rafael Kouto, are also the creative directors of the project, which includes different collaborations. The goal is support Swiss creativity, the interdisciplinary nature of the various sectors (art, fashion and cinema), and it's a starting point to sensitise the Canton and the Confederation to emerging artists in this region.
