The Implications of Recovery è un centro di ricerca temporaneo e un sito attivo per l'impegno sociale che pone una meditazione sul significato di recupero in relazione al "Black Past". Questa occupazione dello spazio SRISA Project Space ruota attorno allo sviluppo e all'attuazione tattica di progetti relativi all'Associazione Culturale BHMF, Black History Month Florence, The Recovery Plan, Black Archive Alliance e la ricerca connessa a queste iniziative. Estetizzando le reti transnazionali e realizzando una visualizzazione del lavoro sociale, il progetto promuove modalità sperimentali di generazione di archivi e costruzione di istituzioni. Nel corso della mostra il sito viene utilizzato come laboratorio operativo dal team di BHMF provvedendo informazioni dettagliate sulla retroscena e aumentando gli sforzi collaborativi.

Attingendo all'azione di salvaguardia degli archivi nel dialogo con la costante cancellazione della storia Nera nel contesto globale, BHMF ha avviato un progetto in corso intitolato The Recovery Plan. The Implications of Recovery indaga su cosa significhi recuperarsi dall'amnesia storica, emergere da una sepoltura sociopolitica e affrontare ciò che deve essere ricuperato. La miriade di progetti avviati e coordinati da BHMF sono sforzi attivi per la conservazione della storia Nera nel contesto italiano e la rete di istituzioni, scuole, artisti, studiosi e associazioni che hanno sostenuto e portato avanti questi progetti vengono qui celebrati come la base di un’iniziativa veramente giovane con obiettivi di ampia portata.

A qualche mese dalla quinta edizione del Black History Month Florence che si aprirà nel febbraio 2020 con il tema OBBLIGATO, questo progetto è un preludio alla riflessione di questa edizione sugli obblighi sociali. Non c'è mai stato un momento in cui non fosse necessaria una molteplicità di narrazioni storiche per coesistere, completarsi a vicenda e fornire la complessità così fondamentale per l'umanità. In un contesto contemporaneo così sopraffatto dall'accesso ai dati che una mancanza di integrità sociale è quasi una garanzia, questo progetto delinea le implicazioni del recupero.

The Implications of Recovery is a temporary research center and active site for social engagement that posits a meditation on the meaning of recovery in relation to “the Black Past”. This occupation of the SRISA Project Space revolves around the development and tactical implementation of projects related to the Associazione Culturale BHMF, Black History Month Florence, The Recovery Plan, Black Archive Alliance and research connected to these initiatives. Aestheticizing transnational networks and visualizing social labor, the project fosters experimental modes of archive generation and institution building. During the course of the exhibition the site is employed as an operational workshop by the BHMF team providing insight to the behind the scenes and expanding upon collaborative efforts.

Drawing upon the action of safeguarding archives in dialogue with the consistent erasure of Black history in the global context BHMF has initiated an ongoing project titled The Recovery Plan. The Implications of Recovery investigates what it means to recover from historical amnesia, to emerge from socio-political burial and to address what precisely needs to be recovered. The myriad of projects initiated and coordinated by BHMF are active efforts towards the conservation of Black history within the Italian context and the network of institutions, schools, artists, scholars and associations that have supported and advanced these projects are celebrated herein as the foundation of a truly young initiative with far reaching objectives.

Moving towards the fifth edition of Black History Month Florence which opens in February 2020 under the theme OBBLIGATO, this project is a prelude to this edition’s reflection on social obligations. There has never been a moment where a multiplicity of historical narratives were not needed to coexist, to complete each other and to provide the complexity that is so fundamental to humanity. In a contemporary context so overwhelmed with access to data that a lack of social integrity is almost a guarantee, this project lays out the implications of recovery.
