On the occasion of the 61st edition of the Design Week, Cardi Gallery is pleased to
present the first solo exhibition dedicated to the Mexican artist Bosco Sodi entitled “Mi ricordo, sì, io mi
ricordo” from 21 April to 20 May 2023.
Through an ouvre of works produced between 2022 and 2023, the exhibition offers a unique
opportunity to delve into the language of the artist, who is known for his use of raw, organic materials
with which he creates paintings and sculptures with a strongly material appearance. Starting with 12
large clay spheres scenographically set up on the ground floor, the exhibition then extends to the first
floor of the gallery with a series of large white canvases, a perfect synthesis of Sodi’s artistic practice.

His works are shaped by the choice to embrace the accidental, that moment of non-control, while working
in complete harmony with the natural elements. He rejects the use of tools and does not delegate the
production of his pieces. Rather, he works in an intensely direct, gestural, and performative manner,
therefore generating a uniquely transcendental line of transmission between artist and artwork.
These processes at the basis of both his sculptural and painterly practices result in surfaces rich of
rough textures, cracks, and chasms. Once monochrome bodies created mixing natural materials (ground
minerals, stone, clay, wood) to manmade ones (sawdust, glues, glazes), their surfaces are modified by
the passing of time. They are subject to natural drying processes, left to experience and show the marks
of weathering, or fired in high temperature kilns, ultimately revealing beautifully organic structures that
subvert the artistic form and stand as relics of Sodi’s direct intervention into nature.
His continuous dialogue with nature and landscape, influenced by his interests in Japanese aesthetics
and abstract expression, lies in the groove between Arte Povera and Land Art, two post-war movements
that emphasise the use of radically simple materials and a profound connection between art and the
land.

Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Japan; Des Moines Art Center, Des Moines, USA;
Deutsche Bank, New York, USA; Harvard Art Museums, Massachusetts, USA; Museum der bildenden
Künste, Leipzig, Germany; Museum of Contemporary Art, Antwerp, Belgium; Museum Voorlinden,
Wassenaar, Netherlands; Harvard Art Museums, Massachusetts, USA; The Scottish National Gallery of
Art, Edinburgh, Scotland; The Museum of Modern Art, Gunma, Japan.In 2022, la Fondazione Albero d’Oro
organised the solo exhibition ‘What Goes Around Comes Around’ at Palazzo Vendramin Grimani in Venice,
and in the same year Bosco Sodi was one of the artists selected to participate in the XXIII Triennale di
Milano with the site-specific installation ‘Perfect Bodies'.
