La mostra coglie e reinterpreta l’aspetto collettivo e performativo della poesia Renga.

Intorno al XII secolo in Giappone si diffonde una pratica di poesia a più voci, il Renga, nella quale un primo autore compone la strofa iniziale. Risponde un secondo allacciandosi al verso precedente e poi un terzo e così via in un’alternanza che può arrivare fino a cento strofe.

La mostra coglie e reinterpreta l’aspetto collettivo e performativo della poesia Renga. Seguendo l’ordine alfabetico, gli artisti della galleria hanno scelto, per affinità e liberi da ogni vincolo, una propria opera in relazione a quella scelta dall’artista precedente.

L’allestimento sottolinea il carattere frammentario e contestualmente corale del progetto, restituendo così un componimento per immagini in cui le opere dalla prima all’ultima sono unite da un filo invisibile, come canti concatenati.

Renga, a form of multi-voice poetry, became popular in Japan in around the twelfth century. The first poet composes the first verse, and the second one responds, linking his own to the first one. Then other poets come in, and they take turns, composing a poem that can go on even for a hundred verses.

This exhibition takes up and reinterprets the collective and performative aspect of Renga poetry. Intervening in alphabetical order, each of the gallery's artists has freely chosen a work of their own that relates in some way to the one chosen by the previous artist.

The installation highlights the fragmentary and yet choral nature of the project, thus creating a composition of images in which the works are held together by an invisible underlying thread from beginning to end, like a medley of songs.
