ar/ge kunst freut sich auf die erste italienische Einzelausstellung der französischen Künstlerin und Designerin Clémence Seilles (*1984, lebt und arbeitet in Paris und Amsterdam). Das Projekt führt eine Serie von Präsentationen fort, im Rahmen derer Künstler/innen eingeladen wurden, anlässlich des 30. Jubiläums von ar/ge kunst und im Bewusstsein der kollektiven Dimension seiner Namensgebung,[1] über das assoziative institutionelle Modell des Kunstvereins nachzudenken.

Ihre Anfänge im Produktdesign fortschreibend, erkundet Seilles’ künstlerische Praxis die Mittel, Materialien und expositiven Mechanismen, welche das Dispositiv der Kunstausstellung als Raum der Präsentation, Kommunikation und Legitimation abstecken. Während sie zuvor an den skulpturalen Qualitäten von Sockeln und Sitzen als tragenden Elementen und Kompositionsformen interessiert war, konzentrieren sich Seilles aktuelle Arbeiten auf die Erschaffung von Szenarien, die kollektive, produktive und performative Situationen ins Werk setzen. Vom Entwurf komplett möblierter und mit allen Accessoires ausgestatteter Salons bis hin zum Ausbau von Aufnahmestudios für unabhängige Musiker inklusive von Seilles selbst entworfener Musikinstrumente, sind diese Szenarien Mittel der Reflektion von sozialen Ritualen der Begegnung und des Ereignisses.

Bassin ouvert, Seilles Intervention in den Räumen von ar/ge kunst, erweitert das Terrain ihrer gegenwärtigen Erkundungen. Ein Bassin im eigentlichen Sinne ist ein künstliches Becken, das man überwiegend in mediterranen Ländern, in öffentlichen und privaten Höfen und Gärten vorfindet. In diesem Fall handelt es sich, wie der Titel andeutet, um ein 'offenes' bauliches Element; es fungiert rein als Ornament ebenso wie als Brunnen, als Wasserquelle, oder als eine Art Spa und Wellness-Center. Seine eigentliche Intention verwirklicht sich aber in der Präsenz von Wasser, das hier eine assoziative, hybride und (re)generative Umgebung kreiert. Dieses 'Objekt' suggeriert Funktionen und Operationsweisen, die von denen der Institution bewusst abweichen. Indem es sich im Laufe der Ausstellung von einer Szenografie in einen flexiblen Möglichkeitsraum verwandelt, wird das Bassin diverse Formen von Begegnung sowohl begünstigen wie reflexiv aufnehmen, insofern seine möglichen Gebräuche sich durch die dort zusammentreffenden Künstler/innen, Musiker/innen, Studenten/innen und Choreographen/innen immer wieder neu definieren.

Clémence Seilles hat zur Eröffnung am 15. Mai die Künstler Estrid Lutz, Emile Mold und Theo Demans eingeladen, um die Performance An Extra Collision zu verwirklichen.

Am 2., 3., und 4., Juli wird die Künstlerin Valentina Desideri als Teil der aktuellen Ausstellung und in Zusammenarbeit mit der Philosophin Denise Ferreira da Silva sowie den Choreographinnen Jennifer Lacey und Cristina Rizzo das Projekt Studio Practice: On the Act of Reading präsentieren.

Die Ausstellung Bassin ouvert ist Teil der Platform PIANO (Prepared Platform for Contemporary Art, Frankreich–Italien 2014-2016), die ihrerseits initiiert wurde von d.c.a (Association Française de Développement des Centres d'Art) in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Institut Français in Italien, der Französischen Botschaft in Italien; mit Unterstützung des französischen Ministeriums für auswärtige und internationale Entwicklung, des französischen Ministeriums für Kultur und Kommunikation und der Fondazione Nuovi Mecenati.

Studio Practice: On the Act of Reading ist eine Koproduktion mit dem Festival Bolzano Danza | Tanz Bozen.

ar/ge kunst è lieta di annunciare la prima mostra italiana dell’artista e designer francese Clémence Seilles (1984, vive e lavora tra Parigi ed Amsterdam).
Con questo progetto continua la presentazione di artisti che sono stati invitati ad operare nel corso del trentesimo anniversario di ar/ge kunst per riflettere sul modello istituzionale ed associativo di Kunstverein e sulla dimensione collettiva suggerita dal nome “ar/ge”. [1]
A partire dalla propria formazione e pratica nel campo del design, Seilles porta avanti una ricerca sui dispositivi, i materiali e i “meccanismi espositivi” che costituiscono l’apparato-mostra come spazio di presentazione, comunicazione e legittimazione. Dopo essersi confrontata con la dimensione scultorea di piedistalli e sedute come elementi di supporto che compongono il display, l’artista si concentra nella costruzione di scenari che facilitano situazioni collettive performative e produttive riflettendo sul rituale dell’incontro e dell’evento – dalla progettazione di salons con mobili e accessori, fino allo studio di registrazione per musicisti indipendenti completi di strumenti riprogettati da Seilles stessa.

Con Bassin ouvert, Clémence Seilles realizza negli spazi di ar/ge kunst un intervento che espande le premesse di questa ricerca. Il bassin è, infatti, una vasca d’acqua artificiale presente nelle corti e giardini pubblici e privati in uso principalmente nei paesi mediterranei. Un elemento architettonico questa volta “aperto” nelle funzioni, come indica il titolo, – puro ornamento, fonte e risorsa d’acqua, luogo per la cura e il benessere del corpo – ma che attraverso la presenza dell’acqua ha la finalità ultima di produrre un ambiente aggregante, ibrido e (ri)generativo.
L’“oggetto” propone quindi una funzione, e un funzionamento, differente dell’istituzione. Muovendosi tra la dimensione della scenografia e quella del supporto “fluido”, il bassin accoglie e si adatta nel corso della mostra a varie forme di incontro: da artisti e musicisti a studenti, coreografi, che di volta in volta ne riscrivono le possibilità d’uso.

Per l’inaugurazione gli artisti Estrid Lutz, Emile Mold e Theo Demans sono stati invitati da Clémence Seilles a realizzare la performance An Extra Collision.

Nel contesto della mostra, il 2, 3 e 4 di Luglio, la coreografa e artista Valentina Desideri, svilupperà il progetto Studio Practice: On the Act of Reading, in collaborazione con la filosofa Denise Ferreira da Silva e le coreografe Jennifer Lacey e Cristina Rizzo.

Il progetto Bassin ouvert si inserisce nell'ambito di PIANO, piattaforma preparata per l'arte contemporanea, Francia-Italia 2014-2016, concepita da d.c.a / association française de développement des centres d’art, in partnership con l'Institut français d’Italie, l'Ambasciata di Francia in Italia e l'Institut français, con il sostegno del Ministère des Affaires étrangères et du Développement international, del Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication e della Fondazione Nuovi Mecenati.

Ar/ge kunst is pleased to announce the first Italian solo exhibition by French artist and designer Clémence Seilles (1984, lives and works in Paris and Amsterdam). This project continues a series of presentations by artists who have been invited to mark the thirtieth anniversary of ar/ge kunst with reflections on the associative institutional model of the Kunstverein and the collective dimension its name suggests.[1]
Building on a background in product design, Seilles’ artistic practice explores the tools, materials and ‘expositive mechanisms’ that constitute the dispostif of the art exhibition as a space of presentation, communication and legitimation. Having previously worked on the sculptural aspects of plinths and seats as elements of support, Seilles’ current work focuses on the construction of scenarios that facilitate collective, productive and performative situations. From the planning of salons decked out with furniture and accessories to the construction of recording studios for independent musicians complete with musical instruments designed by Seilles herself, these scenarios are a means of reflecting on the social rituals of the encounter and the event.

Bassin ouvert, Seilles’ intervention in the spaces of ar/ge kunst, expands the scope of her current research. A bassin in the proper sense is an artificial pond generally found in public and private courtyards and gardens, mainly in the Mediterranean countries. In this case, as the title suggests, it is an ‘open’ architectural element; it can function as a pure ornament, a fountain, a water source, or a sort of health spa and wellness centre. But its ultimate aim is achieved through the presence of water, creating an associative, hybrid, (re)generative milieu. This ‘object’ proposes functions and modes of operation that differ from those of the institution. Moving from scenography to a fluid form of support over the course of the exhibition, the bassin will actively foster and adapt itself to various forms of encounter as its possible uses are redefined from time to time by the artists, musicians, students and choreographers who gather here.

Clemence Seilles has invited artists Estrid Lutz, Emile Mold and Theo Demans to perform An Extra Collision during the opening.

On the 2, 3 and 4 July and as part of the current exhibition, artist and choreographer Valentina Desideri will present the project Studio Practice: On the Act of Reading in collaboration with the philosopher Denise Ferreira da Silva and the choreographers Jennifer Lacey and Cristina Rizzo.
