Sonnet Cycle è il titolo del progetto con cui Domenico Mangano & Marieke van Rooy celebrano il loro nuovo approccio alla necessità di stimolare il serbatoio della memoria collettiva al tempo della “post-verità”.

EN_ Sonnet Cycle is the title of the project that Domenico Mangano and Marieke van Rooy have chosen to celebrate their new way of addressing the need to promote collective memory in the “post-truth era”. The videos, drawings, sculptures and pictures specifically made for this exhibition are aimed at discovering a new methodology, which is other than the direct dialogue with the media‑drenched reality, but aims at identifying a new role for the artwork at the time of dispersed museums/archives. The new works on show aspire to raise awareness on the specific physical point of view from which the observers find themselves interacting with the world. The works will not only address personal matters to which the others can only remain indifferent. In order to do so, the two artists, who have been working together since 2014, reveal their specific way of narrating and transforming the narration trough the encounter with the world. An encounter that takes on absurd dimensions, like in a fairy tale, touching the grotesque, precisely because they are aware that performing such action and reflection in our current “liquid modernity” is akin to re-founding a new “principle of reality” whose codes have to be searched for in an archaic and non-historical collective dimension. The sonnets, poems, and fairy tales recalled by the title of the exhibition do not refer to invented stories, but to the strategy that man has always adopted in order to create machines that are used to create stories and narrate them subject by subject to foster the transmission of knowledge and the curiosity for knowledge. This is the approach that made the two artists follow first the methods used by medieval Sicilian poets, by which they confronted themselves with a non-mediated but layered landscape. IT_Sonnet Cycle è il titolo del progetto con cui Domenico Mangano & Marieke van Rooy celebrano il loro nuovo approccio alla necessità di stimolare il serbatoio della memoria collettiva al tempo della “post-verità”. Il video, i disegni, le sculture e le fotografie che hanno realizzato appositamente per la mostra puntano a scoprire una nuova metodologia alternativa al dialogo diretto con la realtà mediatica, ma anche ad individuare un nuovo ruolo dell’opera d’arte al tempo del museo/archivio diffuso. Le nuove opere in mostra aspirano a rendere consapevole lo specifico punto di vista fisico da cui l’osservatore si trova a interagire con il mondo affinché non si risolva solo in un fatto personale a cui gli altri possano solo assistere indifferenti. La coppia di artisti, che lavorano assieme dal 2014, per fare questo mette in evidenza il loro specifico modo di narrare e trasformare nella narrazione l’incontro con il mondo. Incontro che ha a che fare con dimensioni assurde, da favola al limite con il grottesco proprio perché sono consapevoli che effettuare tale azione e riflessione nella attuale “modernità liquida” equivale a ri-fondare un nuovo “principio di realtà” i cui codici sono da ricercare in una dimensione collettiva arcaica e a-storica.
I sonetti, le poesie, le favole evocate dal titolo si riferiscono non a storie inventate, ma al meccanismo che l’uomo adotta da sempre per creare delle macchine con cui creare storie e narrarle di soggetto in soggetto per alimentare la trasmissione del sapere e la curiosità per la conoscenza. Questo è l’approccio che ha portato i due artisti prima a rivolgersi ai metodi dei poeti siciliani medievali con cui avere un confronto con il paesaggio di tipo non mediato, ma stratificato.
