Eric Frey – Ministry of Mnemosyne
Mostra personale.
Comunicato stampa
Exhibition of new works by SACI MFA in Studio Art candidate Eric Frey.
Eric Frey presents the Ministry of Mnemosyne’s Memory Registration Commission, a mobile participatory art project. The project stems from the will to collect and preserve memories prior to their loss or degradation in the neural database of the memory originator, and to free up additional storage space for future memories. Online and in presence visitors are invited to participate in the Initial Roll-Out phase of the Archive of Memories, aimed to collect memories from those who volunteer to participate in the mnemonic object memory transfer program.
Eric J. Frey has taken his US Military experience, his use of objects to recall memories, and his obsession for collecting objects, to transform this process into a memory object archive that is usable by anyone, human and non-human, to preserve memories for future generations. No memory is too insignificant or too important to archive. He archives memories from the routine to most significant official government or global events. He wants your memory to be preserved and protected.
How to participate
The Initial Roll-Out phase focuses on establishing the Coronavirus Pandemic Collection, where participants are asked to contribute a memory of their experience during the 2019-2021 Global Coronavirus Pandemic, these memories can relate to any part of the pandemic, from experiencing the SARS-COV2 virus, or remembering the effects of the government’s response to reducing the infection rates. To contribute a memory, please bring an image that relates to the memory (can be drawn, painted, clipped, printed or digital), and bring in an object that you can transfer the memory to (must be non-perishable, and able to fit in a box 37x10x27 cm). The image and the memory will be carefully preserved inside a book called the Codice Memoria while the object will be archived in a Mnemonic Object Packet which is carefully stored and secured in the Ministry’s Archive of Memories.
The Initial Roll-out will take place 26 to 28 January, 2021 in the Palazzo Maidoff Gallery from 9:30-16:30 daily, by appointment only. Memories can also be submitted after the exhibition with packets that are available at the exhibition space, or online at www.freykunst.com/ministry-of-mnemosyne/. WORK(IN)SPACE is a series of exhibition projects by SACI 2nd-Year MFA candidates, as part of the Professional Practicum Seminar. Students work directly in SACI's Maidoff Gallery to critically engage with the challenges offered by preparing an exhibition. Each week, a new opening presents a coherent body of work of the artists. Working one-on-one with SACI Instructors Daria Filardo and Pietro Gaglianò, students step outside of their studio environment to rethink their work in an exhibition setting, learning to consider all the aspects, limitations, and needs of the given space to achieve the best final result.
WORK(IN)SPACE is held in SACI’s Maidoff Gallery and includes all phases of the exhibition, from the planning, to the installation and the opening of the solo show.
