Fabian Marcaccio – Loveless

L’interesse di Marcaccio è rivolto alla pittura, intesa come linguaggio in evoluzione e in costante trasformazione. Alla tecnica più tradizionale unisce l’esperienza del digitale, della fotografia e più di recente della scultura, giungendo a realizzare opere complesse, che definisce Paintants, un mix estetico di linguaggi espressivi.

Jerome Zodo Contemporary è lieta di presentare in esclusiva LOVELESS: Variant Paintants, prima personale italiana dell’artista argentino, naturalizzato americano, Fabian Marcaccio (1962, Rosario de Santa Fe).

Nato nel 1963 a Rosario di Santa Fé, da madre argentina e padre italiano, nel 1985 vince il primo premio Esso de Pintura y Dibujo a Buenos Aires. Da allora, dopo essere entrato al Printmaking Laboratory, vive a New York. Vanta un curriculum internazionale di primo livello; nel 1995 partecipa alla Biennial Exhibition Contemporary American Painting presso la Corcoran Gallery of Art di Washington e nel 2002 a Documenta 11 di Kassel. Nel 2011 ha ricevuto a Berlino il Premio Bernhard Heilinger per la scultura.

L’interesse di Marcaccio è rivolto alla pittura, intesa come linguaggio in evoluzione e in costante trasformazione. Alla tecnica più tradizionale unisce l’esperienza del digitale, della fotografia e più di recente della scultura, giungendo a realizzare opere complesse, che definisce Paintants, un mix estetico di linguaggi espressivi. Nelle sue intenzioni “la pittura è da una parte una forma di resistenza che può ancora raggiungere esiti importanti e innovativi, apportando nuovi modelli organici e produttivi che coinvolgono cuore, cervello e coraggio”.

A Milano Fabian Marcaccio presenta la produzione più recente. Tele di grandi e medie dimensioni composte di corde, vernici ad acqua e inchiostro – Rope Paintings – in cui la trama del supporto è lasciata volutamente a vista e l’effetto raggiunto è quello di una pittura in espansione nella quale le immagini sono percepite nella loro totalità. Una visione che si spinge oltre la bidimensionalità e rileva volumi e superfici. Le opere di Marcaccio, “sono massicce e molto materiche, ma allo stesso tempo piene di aria e atmosfera. Infatti si può vedere il muro e il supporto della struttura, l’ombra che il dipinto stesso proietta sul muro. Sono dipinti sia reazionari che progressisti”.

Alle tele si aggiungono le sculture, testimoni della tendenza di Marcaccio alla deformazione plastica; figure in alluminio e silicone colorato, oggetti assemblati, dalle forme alterate, le masse amplificate e proiettate verso l’esterno. In This Just Out Paintant, 2009 e This Just In Paintant, 2009 l’immagine sembra manipolata, mossa da una forza centrifuga che ne dirama l’estremità verso uno stato di esplosione imminente. Sono strutture che mutano i propri confini, invadono lo spazio, fisico e percettivo. Una ricerca artistica che Fabian Marcaccio porta avanti da anni, perseguendo perentoriamente l’idea che la pittura debba sempre rinnovarsi, ponendosi in relazione anche con altri linguaggi espressivi, ad esempio l’architettura (nota la sua collaborazione con Greg Lynn), la musica e il cinema d’animazione: “La pittura è costantemente rivolta a definire se stessa e a definirsi in relazione agli altri linguaggi in uno stato di complessità, sia dentro che fuori, in una condizione di cambiamento costante”.

Nato a Rosario de Santa Fe, in Argentina nel 1963, ex studente di filosofia, Fabian Marcaccio, ha esposto in diverse ed importanti manifestazioni e sedi artistiche internazioanli: tra cui il Krefeld Kunstmuseen, a Krefeld, (2012); il Kunstverein Kölnischer, Württembergischer Kunstverein di Stoccarda, il Museum Moderner Kunst di Francoforte, il George Kolbe Museum, Berlino (2011); The Secession, Vienna (2009); MALBA Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires, Argentina (2005); MAM Miami Art Museum (2004); Cologne Kunstverein, Cologne, Documenta (2002,) Art Unlimited (2006); la Biennale di Siviglia (2007), di Istanbul e L'Avana il PS1 di New York (2002). Jerome Zodo Contemporary is proud to present in exclusive LOVELESS: Variant Paintants, the first personal exhibition in Italy of Argentinean born, naturalized American, Fabian Marcaccio (1962, Rosario de Santa Fe).
Born in 1963, in Rosario di Santa Fé, of Argentinean mother and Italian father, he won first prize ‘Esso de Pintura y Dibujo’ in Buenos Aires, in 1985. Since then, after entering the Printmaking Laboratory, he has been living in New York. He boasts a top-level international curriculum; in 1995 he participated in the Biennial Exhibition Contemporary American Painting at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington and in 2002 at Kassel, Documenta 11. In 2011, he received the Bernhard Heilinger Prize for Sculpture in Berlin. Marcaccio’s interest is directed at painting, interpreted as a language in evolution and constant transformation. He merges the most traditional techniques with digital experience, photography and, more recently, sculpture, thus creating complex works of art that he defines as Paintants, an aesthetic blend of expressive languages. According to his intention: “painting is, on one hand, a form of resistance that can still achieve important and innovative results, incorporating new organic and productive models that involve the heart, brain and courage”.

Fabian Marcaccio is presenting his most recent creation in Milan. Large and medium-sized canvasses composed of rope, water-paints and ink – Rope Paintings – in which the support frame is purposely clearly visible to achieve the effect of a painting in expansion in which the images can be perceived in their entirety. It is a vision that pushes beyond bidimensionality and highlights volumes and surfaces. The works created by Marcaccio “are large and full of matter but, at the same time, full of air and atmosphere. In fact, you can see the wall and supporting structure, the shadow of the painting falling onto the wall. They are paintings that are both reactionary and progressive”.

The canvasses are joined by sculptures, a testimony of the trend that Maracaccio has to deform plastic; figures in aluminium and coloured silicone, assembled objects, with altered shapes, mass amplified and projected outwards. In This Just Out Paintant, 2009, and This Just In Paintant, 2009, the image appears to be manipulated, shaken by a centrifugal force that has pulled the extremity towards a state of imminent explosion. They are structures that mutate their own boundaries, invading space, both physical and perceptually. This is artistic research that Fabian Marcaccio has been doing for many years, following the peremptory idea that art must always renew itself, placing itself in relationship to other expressive forms of language, for example architecture (note his collaboration with Greg Lynn), music and animated cinema: “Art is constantly aimed at defining itself and defining its relationship to other languages in a state of complexity, both inner and outer, in a condition that is constantly mutating”.
