CAZA to debut studio’s first monograph, CAZA: 2011 - 2015, in Venice during
opening la Biennale di Venezia 2016
May 2016 (Brooklyn, NY) – For la Biennale di Venezia 2016 – 15th International Architecture
Exhibition, CAZA (Carlos Arnaiz Architects) has teamed up with New York-based digital artist
Robby Kraft, to create a unique installation that will be on view for the duration of the Biennale
at Palazzo Mora as part of the exhibition Time Space Existence. The presentation, entitled
Facing Geometry, centers around a large-scale, digitally interactive screen that mirrors people’s
faces and translates their gestures into drawings. Facing Geometry will visually explore CAZA’s
connection to the process of drawing as a means to activate the ways our physical environment
can embody the vast differences in our global culture through architecture and design.
A self-reflexive, interactive digital experience, the installation will enable visitors to engage with
CAZA’s drawings and create their own variations of these spatial and geometrical experiments
with their facial movements. The screen reacts in a distinct way with every person that
encounters the installation, resulting in a diverse amalgam of geometric shapes as they relate to
the viewer’s own facial features. The experience will allow each visitor to visually navigate and
understand the simplicities and complexities of architectural drawing.
Carlos Arnaiz, Principal and CEO of CAZA, notes, “Drawing is our most primitive tool. It
registers how we see and, as such, holds the potential to change how we relate to our world. As
we look at ourselves through drawing, we wonder what it is that we see and how might the
difference we behold in the reflection inspire change in our world.”
Throughout the opening weekend of the Venice Architecture Biennale 2016, Arnaiz will be at the
installation to answer questions and guide viewers to interact with this innovative installation.
CAZA’s first monograph, CAZA: 2011 – 2015, will be available for viewing and purchase at
Palazzo Mora and the bookshop at the Arsenale.
