WIZARD GALLERY is pleased to present the solo exhibition "someoffallofus", featuring the latest works by artist Franklin Evans. Opening at the Milan Gallery on March 26 until April 26, this exhibition provides an insight into Evans' artistic vision.
Each artwork in "sumofallofus" mirrors the complexity of the artist’s philosophy, standing as a testament to his artistic identity. Conceived in his New York studio, these compositions have been created by the artist in 2024 and are showcased at Wizard Gallery in Milan for the first time.
Franklin Evans' artistic universe blurres the lines between reality and illusion. By incorporating materials such as tape, bubble wrap, old newsprint, and unstretched canvas, Evans defines himself as a materialist, echoing the practices of Kerry James Marshall and Henri Matisse in a contemporary key.
"Sumofallofus" serves as a exploration of the contemporary human experience, investigating important themes of social commentary and cultural introspection related to the chaotic profusion of images and the confusion of conflicting messages characteristic of present society.
Through the exhibition "sumofallofus," we extend an invitation to visitors to immerse themselves in Evans' world, encouraging them to envision their own identities within the collective narrative of "the sum of all of us."
Franklin Evans (born 1967 in Reno, Nevada) lives and works in New York. The artist, who trained as a painter but primarily considers himself a materialist, utilizes painting to create hyperrealistic and illusionistic effects of layering and wear within his works. He views his work as "unfinished," a transition, an almost-emergent, a slow evolution, a movement towards erasure.
