Gabriele Porta – Pure Love

La mostra è un percorso che si articola su tre temi principali, l’amore, il sesso e la morte, all’interno dei quali si sviluppano una serie di sfumature quali ad esempio: la tenerezza, la pornografia, il culto dei morti.

Federica Schiavo Gallery is delighted to present Pure Love, Gabriele Porta’s first solo show in Rome. The exhibition is built around three main themes: love, sex and death, within the artist develops a wide range of shades such as tenderness, pornography, the cult of dead. In Porta’s work these issues present the eternal dualism between opposites that however do not entail a real contrast but a mutual completion and it leads to a new territory where the visitor will experience a continuous oscillation between pleasure and disgust.

The exhibition includes a video on a monitor, a video projection, a new series of paintings on board, prints and drawings on sandpaper. The cornerstone of the exhibition – even though decentralized in the gallery’s space - is the connection of the video projection My Wedding Will Be A Funeral, a cruel amateur film shot in Kenya, to a series of works on paper whose lightness creates a powerful and disturbing contrast with the content of the video.

The show Pure Love is prohibited to minors under the age of 18.

Gabriele Porta was born in Monza in 1981. He lives and works in Arcore, Italy. After his studies at the Brera Fine Arts Academy in Milan, 2004, he won a scholarship at the Slade School of Fine Art - UCL of London where he had his MA Master Degree in Fine Arts Media in 2007. The artist has participated in many group exhibitions in Italy including The Milky Way, Galleria Lia Rumma, Naples 2014 (promoted by Pianoterra Onlus); La fioritura del bambù, Viafarini DOCVA, Milan 2009; The Inner Emotion of Being Alive, Federica Schiavo Gallery, Rome 2009. His work was exhibited in many european cities: London, UK; Paris, France; Locarno, Switzerland; Reyjavik, Iceland.

Federica Schiavo Gallery è lieta di presentare Pure Love, la prima personale di Gabriele Porta a Roma. La mostra è un percorso che si articola su tre temi principali, l'amore, il sesso e la morte, all'interno dei quali si sviluppano una serie di sfumature quali ad esempio: la tenerezza, la pornografia, il culto dei morti. Nel lavoro di Porta tutti questi temi sono presentati come un eterno dualismo degli opposti che tuttavia non implica una vera e propria contrapposizione ma, al contrario, un loro vicendevole completamento che dà vita a un nuovo territorio dove il fruitore è sospeso in una continua sensazione oscillatoria fra il piacere e il disgusto.

La mostra comprende un video su monitor, una video proiezione, dipinti su tavola, stampe e disegni realizzati con carta vetrata e vernice spray. Fulcro centrale della mostra - seppur decentrato nello spazio - è l'associazione tra la video proiezione My Wedding Will Be A Funeral, un cruento film amatoriale girato in Kenya, e una serie di opere su carta la cui leggerezza crea un potente e disturbante contrasto con le immagini del video.

La mostra Pure Love è vietata ai minori di anni 18.

Gabriele Porta è nato a Monza nel 1981. Vive e lavora ad Arcore. Dopo gli studi all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera a Milano, 2004, ha vinto la borsa di studio presso la Slade School of Fine Art - UCL di Londra dove ha conseguito il MA Master Degree in Fine Arts Media nel 2007. L’artista ha partecipato a diverse mostre collettive in Italia, tra le quali The Milky Way, Galleria Lia Rumma, Napoli 2014 (promossa da Pianoterra Onlus); La fioritura del bambù, Viafarini DOCVA, Milano 2009; The Inner Emotion of Being Alive, Federica Schiavo Gallery, Roma 2009. Il suo lavoro è stato inoltre presentato in diverse città europee: Londra, UK; Parigi, Francia; Locarno, Svizzera; Reyjavik, Islanda.
