Giulia Cacciuttolo nasce a Roma nel 1991. Laureata in Arti Visive e Performative presso l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma, conseguirà poi un Master in Pittura al Wimbledon College of Arts e uno in Belle Arti al Central Saint Martins. Attualmente, frequenta un PhD in Scultura presso la Faculdade de Belas Artes, Universidade de Lisboa.

Attiva sia in Italia che all’estero, partecipa a svariate mostre personali e collettive tra cui: Since I’m here, I must have come from somewhere, EKA Palace (Lisbona), Embracing borders, Chinretsukan Gallery, (Tokyo), Screen Project, Saatchi Gallery, (Londra), Sciame Mobile Residence Exhibition, Museo Palazzo Santi (Cascia IT). Ottiene numerosi riconoscimenti, tra questi si aggiudica il primo posto al concorso internazionale Massenzio Arte di Roma e vince la Mona Hatoum Bursary 2018.

Primo Levi definisce la memoria “meravigliosa ma fallace” ovvero soggettiva, personale, individuale, intima. Così preziosa da non potere essere mischiata o confusa con quella degli altri. L’istinto a non fotografare le cose per come sono ma la loro memoria è alla base della ricerca dell’artista. Se inizialmente si utilizza il mezzo fotografico, successivamente l’immagine subisce una metamorfosi alchemica, da pura superficie a scultura/installazione in rame e organza di seta, un tipo di tessuto che condivide un profondo legame con il territorio comasco. Le pieghe e la trasparenza del tessuto non fanno che accentuare la volontà di disperdere l’immagine iniziale, di perderla, sopirla, renderla lontana come accade ai ricordi, nella nostra memoria.

Attualmente Cacciuttolo vive ed opera a Londra.

Giulia Cacciuttolo, born in Rome, 1991. Graduated in Visual and Performing Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, she then obtained a Master's degree in Painting from Wimbledon College of Arts and in Fine Arts at Central Saint Martins. Currently, she is attending a PhD in Sculpture at the Faculdade de Belas Artes, Universidade de Lisboa.

Active both in Italy and abroad, Cacciuttolo has participated in various solo and group exhibitions all over the globe including: Since I'm here, I must have come from somewhere, EKA Palace (Lisbon), Embracing borders, Chinretsukan Gallery, (Tokyo), Screen Project , Saatchi gallery, (London), Sciame Mobile Residence Exhibition, Palazzo Santi Museum (Cascia IT). She obtained numerous awards including; first place at the Massenzio Arte international competition in Rome and won the Mona Hatoum Bursary 2018.

Primo Levi defines memory as "marvelous but fallacious" or rather subjective, personal, individual, intimate. So precious that it cannot be mixed or confused with that of others.

The artists instinct is not to photograph things as they are but rather their focusing on memory as basis for her research. Innately using a photographic medium, Cacciuttolo then transforms the image by undergoing an alchemical metamorphosis, from pure surface to sculpture / installation in copper and silk organza, a type of fabric that shares a deep bond with the Como area. The folds and transparency of the fabric accentuates only the desire to disperse the initial image, losing it, quelling it, making it distant memories as it happens, possibly even in our own memories.
