Giulia Messina – Cadavre exquise
Mostra personale.
Comunicato stampa
L.U.P.O. is pleased to announce CADAVRE EXQUIS, Giulia Messina's first solo exhibition in the gallery.
The inspiration for this exhibition came from the idea of creating a performative and playful dinner party that comes to life within the exhibition space. Giulia Messina ventures into the world of the Cadavre Exquis game, a non-competitive activity that challenges the conventions of collaborative creation, with each participant ignoring the contributions of the others.
Through a series of cinematic references, including the cult "Rocky Horror Picture Show" and "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover", Messina explores the theme of banqueting and
anthropophagy in a grotesque and baroque, yet comical context. This profound reflection on eating practices and the perception of the human body invites the public to explore concepts of attraction and revulsion, as well as identity and mortality.
The exhibition presents works ranging from installations to performances, from painting to sculpture, all united by a common thread that explores the concept of the body and food as living organisms subject to temporality. Through ceramics and organic, degradable and changeable materials, Messina invites the public to question the meaning of the body, the corpse and the very act of eating.
