La finestra della camera in cui vivevo dava su un giardino, durante un raro agosto più caldo del solito una delle piante sul davanzale è cresciuta troppo in fretta, in eccedenza rispetto al volume del suo ambiente circostante. Inizierà a morire in questi giorni.
La pianta è straripata dal suo vaso, che probabilmente sarà imbottito di radici. La terra sembra troppo fitta, non riesco da solo ad affondarci le mani all’interno.
Riusciremmo a distinguere il trascorrere del tempo in una notte senza elettricità?

Se non riflessa può inondare un luogo, i partecipanti la possono frenare e le loro sagome verranno proiettate nello spazio.
Gli artefici diventano partecipi della loro stessa ombra.
Nel mese di novembre 2015, IN FACT AND IN FICTION viene ospitata presso la sede del MUSIL di Cedegolo, ex centrale idroelettrica dei primi del novecento, recentemente ristrutturata allo scopo di realizzarvi un museo dedicato all'energia idroelettrica; al suo interno l’associazione propone un progetto focalizzato sul tema della LUCE.
L’associazione invita per un programma di residenza dal 9 al 29 novembre 2015 Derek Di Fabio, giovane artista emergente, ad indagare questa tematica attraverso una ricerca estetica, storica e antropologica che condurrà alla produzione di performance ed installazioni site specific.
L’artista condurrà un preliminare lavoro di indagine sul paesaggio e sulle attività economico-produttive e occupazionali precedenti la costruzione della centrale idroelettrica, con un approfondimento specifico sulle risorse energetiche utilizzate in passato. Il frutto di tale ricerca sarà fonte d’ispirazione per gli interventi che verranno realizzati durante la sua permanenza.
Il progetto prevede numerosi incontri laboratoriali curati dall’artista, in collaborazione con 2008daughters, e rivolti ai bambini delle scuole primarie dei comuni di Cedegolo e Sellero.
Gli incontri con i ragazzi delle scuole saranno incentrati attorno al tema “LUCE” e all’idea di risparmio energetico inteso come non-utilizzo radicale dell’energia elettrica: spegnere la luce e qualsiasi altro dispositivo elettrico, sperimentando e giocando con l’energia naturale.
La messa in scena di uno spettacolo di luci, ombre, marionette e voci sarà il frutto dell’interazione tra i bambini e l’artista. Le ombre, forme inorganiche, attiveranno la scena muovendosi e recitando. L’ideatore di ciascun personaggio, sarà anch’esso parte della scena, dando vita ad un’orchestrazione composita guidata e diretta dall’artista, Derek Di Fabio.
Il progetto si concluderà domenica 29 novembre 2015 con un incontro aperto al pubblico in cui verrà presentato il risultato del percorso dell’artista in residenza. Tale percorso vedrà come protagonisti i bambini iscritti ai laboratori, affiancati da Isa Griese (2008daughters), sotto la direzione di Derek Di Fabio.

…guarda al bagnasciuga delle isole come linea di immersione e divisione tra identità; la loro opposizione non configura un'appropriazione o un'occupazione ma un'instancabile ridefinizione di se stesse, in un continuo confronto tra loro.
Nel 2010 inizia a collaborare con Cherimus (http://www.cherimus.net/), che si occupa di sviluppo del territorio tramite l'arte contemporanea. Attualmente si occupa di dare l'avvio a Darajart, una residenza per artisti internazionali nella baraccopoli di Kibera, Nairobi.
Dal 2012 collabora con Isa Griese sotto il nome di DW2008 / 2008daughters; i due artisti hanno recentemente inaugurato POLE POLE, Tile Project Space, Milano (2015) e partecipato a Dirty Wellness, a cura di Francesca Zedtwitz-Arnim, Atelier KSR, Berlin (2015).
Tra le attività più significative, ha contribuito alla co-fondazione dell'artists-run-space Motel Lucie (2010). Ha partecipato a diversi progetti tra cui: Let’s Circus, progetto di Marco Colombaioni presso la Piccola Scuola di Circo di Milano (2011); workshop con Tim Rollins e K.O.S. presso la Fondazione Spinola Banna per l’Arte (2012); Free Range Winter Banana, mostra personale presso Pavillon Social, Lucca (2013); When the sun is out, his house-shaped face bathes in it, presso Almanac Projects (Londra, 2013) e Yslands, presso Almanac Inn (Torino, 2014).
In quest'ultima è stata realizzata un'audio-guida che esplora le superfici di confine che costituiscono connessione emotiva e sensibile tra un'entità e il suo ambiente.
Ha inaugurato a Ficarra la mostra del progetto Contemporary Divan.

2008daughters è stato fondato nel 2012 da Isa Griese e Derek M. F. Di Fabio.
Si esibiscono durante Dorollodive, Full Moon Saloon, a cura di Dafne Boggeri, presso Spazio O’ a Milano (2012) e JHB Fundation Royale a Brussel (2013).
Sempre nel 2013 tengono vari workshops allo Shooters Hill College di Londra, a cura di Almanac Projects e in occasione di Let the stars sit wherever they will (solo show di Matteo Rubbi) presso lo Studio Guenzani, Milano.
Nel 2014 organizzano SEW~U, per Yslands presso Almanac Inn, Torino e partecipano al progetto di Daniella Isamit Morales, Alps Cover’s Tour. Recentemente hanno tenuto un workshop all'interno di Dirty Wellness, a cura di Francesca Zedtwitz-Arnim, L'Atelier KSR, Berlino.

The window of the room where I used to live looked onto the garden and during a rare December, warmer than usual, one of the plants on the windowsill grew too quickly, excessively big compared to its surroundings. It will start to die in these days.
The plant overflowed its vase, which is stuffed full of roots, probably. The dirt seems too dense; I cannot stick my hands in it.
Could we discern the time passing by during a night without electricity?
Buio. Unplugged investigates the situation prior to the construction of the power station in Cedegolo – Valle Camonica; an immersive experience with no plugs nor cables but lead by the natural light refraction.
If not reflected it can fill a place, the participants can stand in its way and their silhouettes will be projected onto the surfaces.
The creators become the partakers of their own shadow.
In November 2015, the MUSIL - Museum of Industry and Labour of Brescia hosts IN FACT AND IN FICTION in the Museum of Hydroelectric Power of Cedegolo, a former hydroelectric power from the early twentieth century, recently restored in order to create a museum dedicated to hydropower. In this historical site the association proposes a project focused on the theme of LIGHT.
The association invites Derek Di Fabio, a young emerging artist, to a residency program from 9 to 29 November 2015, to investigate this subject through an aesthetic, anthropological and historical research that will lead to the production of performances and site-specific installations.
The artist will conduct a preliminary investigation on landscape, economic and industrial activities as well as on the employment policies prior to the construction of the hydroelectric plant, with a closer examination to energy resources used in the past. The result of this investigation will be a source of inspiration for the interventions that will take place during the stay of the artist.
The project includes numerous workshops curated by the artist; these are in collaboration with 2008daughters and are aimed towards the young students of the primary schools of Cedegolo and Sellero.
Workshops with schools will focus on the theme of "LIGHT" and the idea of energy conservation intended as a radical non-use of electricity: to turn off the light and any other electrical device, experimenting and playing with the natural energy.
The production of a show of lights, shadows, puppets and voices will be the result of the interaction between the children and the artist. The shadows, inorganic forms, will activate the scene moving and acting on the stage. The creator of each character is also part of the scene, thus creating a composite orchestration guided and directed by the artist, Derek Di Fabio.
On Sunday 29 November 2015 the project will end with its open house where the artist in residence will present the outcome of his journey. This journey will be focused on the young students enrolled in the workshops; these are under the direction of Derek Di Fabio, assisted by Isa Griese (2008daughters).

...think about the shore of the islands as a line of division and immersion between identities; their opposition does not represent an appropriation nor an occupation but an inexhaustible redefinition of themselves in a continuous comparison among those.
In 2010 Derek Di Fabio began to work with Cherimus (http://www.cherimus.net/), association involved in the development of the territory through contemporary art. Currently Di Fabio is involved in the launch of Darajart, a residence for international artists in the slum dwellers of Kibera, Nairobi.
From 2012 he collaborates with Isa Griese under the name DW2008/2008daughters. The two artists have recently inaugurated POLE POLE, Tile Project Space, Milan (2015) and participated in Dirty Wellness, curated by Francesca Zedtwitz-Arnim, Atelier KSR, Berlin (2015).
Among the most significant activities Derek Di Fabio contributed to the founding of the artists-run space Motel Lucie (2010). 2008daughters was established in 2012 by Isa Griese and Derek M. F. Di Fabio.
