Comunicato stampa

We’re happy to present for the first time in a solo exhibition in Italy, artist and designer Jonathan Muecke’s carbon tube furnitures and sculptural objects during Milan’s design week.

Jonathan Muecke is an American designer renowned for over a decade of creative experimentation that explores the intricate relationship between form, material, and perception. Born in 1983, Muecke engages deeply with a diverse array of materials—including steel, wood, textiles, and composites—to craft objects that challenge spatial expectations and habitual interactions. His intent is to provoke a renewed engagement with our physical environments, prompting viewers to reconsider their place within them. He describes his work as emphasizing "the same object in different materials," underscoring how material choices can transform perception and interaction.

A significant career milestone was receiving a grant from the Graham Foundation in 2012, alongside Atelier Sophie Krier and Bas Princen, for the collaborative publication Field Essays Issue One: Every Object contains an Image / Every Image contains an Object (Onomatopee, 2013). His exhibitions include a notable showcase at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he held his first retrospective, "Jonathan Muecke: Objects in Sculpture," emphasizing his significant contributions to design. Muecke has also participated in exhibitions such as Future Tropes at Volume Gallery and Small Museum for an American Metaphor, curated by architect Kersten Geers, at REDCAT in Los Angeles.

Muecke’s work is held in prestigious collections, including the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and the Vitra Design Museum. In 2014, he was commissioned by Design Miami/ to create a temporary pavilion for the fair's tenth anniversary. His contributions were further recognized in 2015 with a USA Knight Fellowship, supporting his ongoing creative practice. Through his innovative approach and insightful explorations of materiality, Muecke continues to inspire collectors and fellow designers, solidifying his influence in contemporary design.
