Waiting Land is at once place and condition.
It manifests through poor spatial formations and lowres visuals.
It shows the actual landscape as the image of the world and what happens in it.

Over time, landscape has transformed from a specific and framed image or representation to an immersive rendering as an all encompassing ambience. Our view of landscape has also expanded —not necessarily in precision (which, no doubt, would have been a desirable effect), but in a kaleidoscope-like manner.
Now, landscape combines narrations, media and technologies, generating speculation, orientation and information.

Waiting Land is an occasion to look at landscape in the ‘real’ world. Waiting Land is a stub. It’s an environment that stands in for some other functionality or place. A stub can simulate both behavior and form. It can follow a procedure. It can temporarily substitute something yet to happen. This stub is a testing ground: for the next natural onslaught, the next carcass to rise from oblivion, the inevitable amnesty, the transformation of concrete to gold—basic alchemy.

Started in 2001, Waiting Land is an ongoing series of collages, drawings, photographs, scaled replica, multiples, moving images, and a story board as comments on an environment we live in.

Based in Berlin, Los Angeles and Naples, Karen Lohrmann and Stefano de Martino collaborate since 2001.

Waiting Land è allo stesso tempo un luogo ed una condizione.
Si manifesta attraverso spazi poveri ed immagini a bassa risoluzione e mostra il paesaggio come immagine del mondo e di ciò che vi accade. Nel corso del tempo infatti il paesaggio, inteso come immagine o rappresentazione intenzionalmente costruita, si è trasformato nel render immersivo di un ambiente totalizzante. La nostra idea di paesaggio si è arricchita - non necessariamente in precisione (che indubbiamente sarebbe stato un effetto desiderabile) ma in maniera caleidoscopica.
Oggi il paesaggio si è esteso alle narrazioni, ai media e alle tecnologie, producendo speculazione, orientamento ed informazione.

Waiting Land è un'occasione per guardare al paesaggio nel mondo 'reale'. Waiting Land è una matrice, un ambiente che rimanda as un'altra funzione o ad un altro luogo. Una matrice può simulare sia il comportamento che la forma. Può seguire una procedura. Può sostituire temporaneamente qualcosa che non è ancora accaduto. La matrice è un terreno di prova per la prossima calamità, per la prossima caracassa che si risveglierà dall'oblio, per l'inevitabile amnistia, per la trasformazione alchemica del cemento in oro.

Progetto in continua evoluzione dal 2001, Waiting Land è una serie di collages, disegni, fotografie, riproduzioni in scala, multipli, immagini in movimento, e uno story board a commentario dell'ambiente in cui viviamo.
