UnTubo Arte è lieto di presentare lunedì 20 ottobre dalle 21:30 in poi “THE INTOXICATION OF BEING” un talk tenuto dall’artista Kendell Geers che introdurrà al pubblico i molteplici aspetti della sua ricerca artistica. Per l’occasione sarà presentata, a cura di Gaia Pasi, una mostra con alcuni lavori significativi del percorso creativo di Geers, che resterà aperta dal lunedì al sabato dalle ore 18:00 alle ore 01:00 fino al 20 dicembre 2014.
Il lavoro dell’artista sudafricano Kendell Geers è spesso percepito come una risposta a condizioni socio-politiche orribili, ed è profondamente influenzato dalla sua identità di Afrikaner bianco cresciuto durante l'apartheid nel suo paese natale.
La sua ricerca è stratificata di domande spirituali ed estetiche, ed esplora i confini di ciò che è lecito mettendo in discussione concetti basilari quali identità, potere e lingua.

Come accade per esempio nei wall paitings dove le parti chiare e scure si alternano di figure e parole precise che diventano altro da sé ricercando un equilibrio precario che sta tra il bello e il pericoloso.
Kendell Geers è nato a Johannesburg (South Africa) nel 1968. Vive e lavora a Brussels. Geers ha partecipato a numerose mostre collettive internazionali tra le quali in Europa il Padiglione Africano alla Biennale di Venezia 52 ° (2007) e Documenta 11 a Kassel, Germania (2002). Recentemente, una retrospettiva del suo lavoro è stata realizzata alla Haus der Kunst di Monaco di Baviera (2013).

UnTubo Art is pleased to present on Monday, October 20th from 21:30 onwards "THE INTOXICATION OF BEING" a talk held by the artist Kendell Geers who will introduce the many aspects of his artistic research. At the same time, the art curator Gaia Pasi, will present an exhibition with some of the most significant works of the artist which will be opened from Monday to Saturday from 18:00 to 01:00 until December 20th, 2014.
The work of South African artist Kendell Geers is often felt as an artistic response to horrid socio-political conditions, as it is deeply influenced by his identity as a white Afrikaner raised during apartheid in his native country.
His practice is layered with Holistic, spiritual, and aesthetic questions, exploring the boundaries of what is permissible and questioning the most basic concepts of identity, power, and language.
The raw but poetic way in which Geers communicates both attracts and repulses, fascinates and awakens. He uses a wide variety of media, references, and strategies in a confrontational rather than dictatorial manner.
Through this process the artist’s bright and dark sides are endlessly negotiated in an effort to find a balance between the beautiful and the dangerous.
Kendell Geers was born in Johannesburg (South Africa) in 1968. He lives and works in Brussels. Geers has shown in numerous international group exhibitions and extensively across Europe, including the African Pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennale (2007) and Documenta 11 in Kassel, Germany (2002).
