LES OBJETS SINGULIERS is a project curated by Emanuela Nobile Mino which consists of two exhibitions explicitly conceived for AltaRoma/AltaModa January 2012 venue. The exhibitions, opening simultaneously on Saturday 28th January 2012, will both present “singular objects”, unique pieces or limited editions, all conceived by the authors invited as wearable objects.
The title of the project is inspired by the book “Les objets singuliers" in which philosopher Jean Baudrillard and architect Jean Nouvel discuss about the “singularity” topic and about the idea of beauty founded on the un-reproducibility of an object, on its autonomy and on its being a indispensable and essential element. In the book, the dialogue between the two figures produces a reflection that involves all contemporary semantic categories (from architecture to art) and, by analyzing the saturate and over-aestheticized reality that surrounds us, tries to highlight all those elements that, due to their conformation or their finality or to the dynamics which they are able to activate, distinguish themselves as being hyper-specific and self-evident, in one word remarkable. The exhibitions present some potential valid argumentations on the “singularity” topic derived today from different contexts such as design, fashion and art, reflecting on what seems to be a common claim to both designers and artists today: designing very special objects, aiming to be real objects of desire. Strictly referring to the original meaning of the term “singular” (which defines an extraordinary, remarkable fact) the two exhibitions, taking place respectively in two neighboring locations, present the one unique pieces exceptionally conceived by international designers, the other the editorial project FILED UNDER / based on hand-made print images on silk created by different authors to reinvent the idea of object, vision and limited edition art.

FILED UNDER / is an independent project created by Florian Böhm (photographer) and Annahita Kamali (designer), both based in Munich. The project is conceived as a sort of editorial platform based on images explicitly created by artists, designers, etc., hand-printed on pure silk large-format scarves, entirely hand-made in Germany, produced in numbered limited edition (max. 100). The project explores the ambiguous relation that links art and design (and fashion design) today and tries to blur the boundaries between those contexts, analyzing the process of creating objects from images and images from objects. This ambiguous relation is, in fact, changing the idea of the art object, which quit to be merely a contemplative object, something to look at, and yes of course able to provoke an interaction with the audience, and which became a functioning object.
Filed Under regards the present-day as an archive. It is set out as a research project driven by the contradictions of our hysterical times, where everything seems to fuse and yet doesn’t. The images generally questions, in a very individual and diverse way, different topics related to fashion, fashion industry and business, fabric, behavior, addiction and identity in terms of the economical, social, historical, local, global argumentations and reflections that can derive from investigating this particular context.
For FILED UNDER / ROME edition a small selected number of artists/designers have been invited by curator Emanuela Nobile Mino to work site-specifically on the Roman fashion and sartorial tradition (as well as its contradictions), and on the local scenario or the imagery connected to Rome’s style history and its contemporary situation (between raises, falls, developments) and to conceive a representative image out of their individual reflections and personal interpretation of the context. Some of the authors involved have been in Rome to develop their researches and shoots, others worked on the project from abroad.
The exhibition set up curated by industrial designer FRIEDERIKE DAUMILLER will display both the FILED UNDER / Roman Issues expressly conceived by the authors invited (FLORIAN BÖHM, FERNANDO and HUMBERTO CAMPANA, KONSTANTIN GRCIC, ANNAHITA KAMALI, LUCA PIZZARONI) and the previous FILED UNDER / editions created by Ayzit Bostan, Richard Caldicott, Martin Fengel, Abbas Kowsari, Florian Süssmayr.

The exhibition displays the prototypes created by some of the most internationally appreciated designers. FERNANDO and HUMBERTO CAMPANA will present their inedited jewels designed during their stay in Rome April trough December 2011. The jewels are inspired by their latest furniture collection Brazilian Baroque created for their roman exhibition Privato Romano Interno (produced by Galleria O., curated by Emanuela Nobile Mino and displayed at Palazzo Pamphilj on May 2011). On the occasion of the exhibition opening, Campana’s jewels, using roman traditional materials (bronze, leather) and mixed iconographies referring both to roman and brazilian language and traditions, will be worn on a dress designed by italian fashion designer SERGIO ZAMBON. The jewels are produced exclusively for Galleria O. as well as “Cashmasheen”, a luminous bead-blasted hand-clutch created by American designer JOHANNA GRAWUNDER as a very glamorous object halfway between a luxurious and practical female must-have accessory and the most contemporary object of desire.
The Cape – Suit conceived by KONSTANTIN GRCIC for Brioni as a reinterpretation/evolution of the classical men’s suit designed as “mobile architecture”, a comfortable portable house. This project has been developed by the designer during his consultation of Brioni archives and it is inspired by a 1971 model. The Cape signed by Grcic will be presented in Rome for the first time after its first appearance in the exhibition “Hand-made…in Italy" organized by Wallpaper* Magazine at Palazzo Brioni in Milano in 2011.

Il progetto LES OBJETS SINGULIERS a cura di Emanuela Nobile Mino si articola in due mostre concepite appositamente per ALTAROMA/ALTAMODA 2012. Le mostre, che inaugureranno in contemporanea a Roma sabato 28 gennaio 2012, l’una presso la Galleria Ugo Ferranti, l’altra presso la Galleria O., presentano entrambe “oggetti singolari”, ovvero pezzi unici o prodotti in edizione limitata e accomunati dall’essere pensati dagli autori come oggetti indossabili.
ll titolo del progetto prende ispirazione dal libro “Gli oggetti singolari" in cui il filosofo Jean Baudrillard e l’architetto Jean Nouvel si confrontano sul tema della singolarità e sull’idea di bellezza fondata sulla non–riproducibilità di un oggetto, sulla sua autonomia e sul suo porsi come elemento indispensabile. Nel libro, il dialogo tra i due autori produce una riflessione che coinvolge tutte le categorie semantiche contemporanee (dall’architettura all’arte), e che, analizzando la realtà satura e sovraestetizzata che ci circonda, cerca di rintracciare e mettere in luce quegli elementi che invece, per la tipologia di conformazione che li contraddistingue, per la finalità con cui nascono, per le diamiche che sono in grado di attivare o, semplicemente, per via del progetto che li sottende, si distinguono per l’iperspecificità della loro essenza rendendosi autoevidenti e, quindi, degni di nota.
Presentando alcune possibili valide argomentazioni che sul tema della singolarità possono scaturire oggi dal confronto tra contesti di indagine diversi quali il design, la moda e l’arte, le due mostre si riuniscono attorno a quella che appare attualmente emergere come esigenza comune ad autori, artisti, designers: progettare oggetti molto speciali, in grado di porsi come nuovi oggetti del desiderio. Concentrandosi sull’accezione del termine “singolare”, condivisa sia dalla lingua italiana che da quella francese, le mostre, dislocate in due diverse e limitrofe locations, presentano l’una pezzi unici ed eccezionalmente realizzati da designers internazionali, l’altra l’edizione speciale “romana” di FILED UNDER / progetto editoriale che prevede la stampa manuale su tessuto di seta di immagini di volta in volta create appositamente da autori di diversa formazione, a reinventare l’idea di oggetto, di visione, di limited edition.

FILED UNDER / è un progetto indipendente ideato da Florian Böhm (artista-fotografo) e Annahita Kamali (fashion designer) entrambi residenti a Monaco, concepito come una piattaforma editoriale dedicata alla pubblicazione di immagini su oggetti e formati insoliti, e che riflette sull’attuale eccessiva produzione di immagini nell’ambito della cultura visiva.
Una delle declinazione di FILED UNDER / è Silk Prints, stampa manuale di immagini fotografiche su seta, ovvero l’utilizzo di un accessorio (il foulard) quale veicolo di informazione e riflessione non solo su questioni inerenti l’arte, ma anche a quelle riguardanti la moda, il mondo industriale del tessile, il fashion business (filedunder.net).
Ogni progetto nasce e viene sviluppato attorno ad un’idea chiave che diversamente si focalizza sull’ambiguità dell’immagine e sulla sua relativa rappresentazione in forma di oggetto fatto a mano. Una volta stampata su seta, l’immagine assume la forma di oggetto e, di contro, l’oggetto si trasforma in immagine ambulante.
L'edizione romana di FILED UNDER / presenta una versione site-specific del progetto dedicata esclusivamente a Roma, e per cui autori selezionati (FLORIAN BÖHM, FERNANDO e HUMBERTO CAMPANA, KONSTANTIN GRCIC, ANNAHITA KAMALI, LUCA PIZZARONI) sono stati invitati dalla curatrice Emanuela Nobile Mino a concepire un progetto ad hoc, traendo diversamente e liberamente ispirazione dalla tradizione sartoriale romana - che ha fatto di Roma uno dei bacini fondamentali di produzione, crescita e diffusione della moda e dello stile italiani – e, più in generale, ad interpretare le diverse sfaccettature dell’immaginario legato alla città eterna in questo senso. Ognuno ha creato per questo progetto un’immagine inedita che, impressa sulla seta dei foulards, si trasforma in visione ambulante, da indossare, ostentare o lasciare sottilmente intuire. La mostra, il cui allestimento è curato dall’architetto FRIEDERIKE DAUMILLER presenta, inoltre, le edizioni di FILED UNDER / realizzate in precedenza da Ayzit Bostan, Richard Caldicott, Martin Fengel, Abbas Kowsari, Florian Süssmayr.

La mostra presenta i prototipi realizzati da alcuni tra i designers più interessanti ed apprezzati a livello internazionale.
II gioielli di FERNANDO e HUMBERTO CAMPANA presentati in anteprima, sono stati concepiti durante il loro più recente soggiorno romano e risentono delle evoluzioni stilistiche che caratterizzano l’ultima collezione di arredi “Brazilian Baroque Collection”, nata a Roma e presentata a Palazzo Pamphilj nel maggio 2011. In essi gli Autori, utilizzando metalli, pelle e pelliccia, combinano iconografie e suggestioni dellla tradizione culturale romana e brasiliana. In occasione dell’inaugurazione uno dei gioielli sarà indossato sull'abito vestaglia con tigre tibetana sulle spalle insieme al sandalo à la rive gauche con tacco a banana di SERGIO ZAMBON, designer di moda di base a Roma con una forte esperienza nel pret-à-porter donna e uomo e conosciuto nel settore per il suo gusto dei connoisseurs della moda di nicchia. I gioielli dei fratelli Campana sono prodotti in esclusiva per la Galleria O. di Roma, così come “Cashmasheen”, la clutch auto-illuminante in alluminio ideata appositamente per questa occasione dalla designer americana JOHANNA GRAWUNDER e che si presenta come un oggetto a metà tra l’accessorio glamorous, iper-femminile e la simbolica traduzione di una cash-machine portatile dalla finitura "bead-blasted” (quella utilizzata per la l’involucro dell’IPad), in grado, quindi, di incarnare forse il più ambito dei desideri, oggi.
La Cappa - Abito realizzata da KONSTANTIN GRCIC per Brioni: una rilettura di un modello storico (1971) individuato dal designer negli archivi della maison e che segna una possible evoluzione del completo maschile classico. Presentata per la prima volta a Roma, dopo essere stata esposta in anteprima nella mostra “Hand-made…in Italy" organizzata da Wallpaper* Magazine a Palazzo Brioni a Milano nel 2011, la Cappa firmata da Konstantin Grcic celebra il fatto a mano e al contempo l’idea di abito come “architettura mobile”, come “abitazione” portatile che, in questo caso in particolare, sottolinea l’idea di comfort e di libertà.
