Lily van der Stokker – Living Room
Diverse installazioni sviluppano una serie di ambienti domestici composti da tele di grandi dimensioni e complementi di arredo.
Comunicato stampa
kaufmann repetto is glad to announce the solo show of Lily van der Stokker Living Room.
For this exhibition the artist develops a series of domestic scenarios that undoubtedly reflects the irreverence which has always characterized her artistic practice. They are in fact design objects at odds with design and art pieces at odds with art per se.
For the first time, in this exhibition, the installations of Lily van der Stokker are dominated in the background by new and unique canvases shifting away from the medium she has been rigorously investigating for more than 30 years, the wall painting, but maintaining her ornamental language and exploring new perspectives.
The show presents a new arrangement mode developing a whole new dialogue with space and an original alternative to the renown concept of furniture, usually merely considered a synthesis of form and décor.
Paintings, sofas, chairs, tables and carpets are overwhelmed by a voluntary childish decoration which recalls a kindergarten and opens doors upon a subversive world made of exuberance, harmony and color.
The overlapping of different decorative patterns is taken to the extremes turning domestic and apparently playful scenarios into ambiguous and claustrophobic dimensions.
Playing with ambiguity, Lily van der Stokker’s installations represent in part our personal needs for comfort and intimacy, while at the same time overwhelming the private sphere into a public space, the artist forces the sense of welfare playing between the familiar and the inappropriate.
The vocabulary of signs displayed by Lily van der Stokker is the result of years of experimentation which has formed a world of decoration driven to its extreme consequences and invested with a happily subversive role.
