The photographic exhibition Playgrounds consists of a series of images of playgrounds shot by night. The playgrounds in these images lack two crucial features: colour and their very young users swarming all around them. By losing their function, these places turn into something else, out-of-scale architecture, uninhabited neighbourhoods, even changing in tone and mood. The cheerfulness and lightness normally associated with these particular installations for play is no longer there. It is replaced by a general sense of suspension and restlessness. That which has always appeared to be bright and clear now shows its darker side: Playgrounds highlights the power of photography, whose uniqueness lies in its ability to transform its subjects rather than reproduce them.
The exhibition is part of the 6th Biennal of Photography on Industry and Work promoted by Fondazione MAST.

La mostra fotografica Playgrounds di Linda Fregni Nagler presenta una serie di immagini di parchi gioco ripresi durante la notte. Perdendo la loro funzione, i playground si trasformano qui in qualcosa d’altro, architetture fuori scala, quartieri disabitati, cambiando perfino nel tono e nell’umore. Non ci sono più l’allegria e la leggerezza normalmente associate a queste particolari installazioni ludiche, sostituite da un senso generale di sospensione e inquietudine. Ciò che è sempre apparso chiaro e luminoso, ora mostra il proprio lato più oscuro. Playgrounds evidenzia il potere della fotografia, la cui peculiarità non risiede nella capacità di riprodurre i propri soggetti, ma di poterli trasformare.
La mostra rientra all’interno della VI Biennale di Fotografia Dell’Industria e Del Lavoro promossa dalla Fondazione MAST.
