Looking Within and Outside the Window

Un percorso tra due progetti concettualmente opposti ma comunicanti tra loro, in un gioco tra interno ed esterno negli splendidi spazi di Palazzo Donà Brusa.

a.topos Venice for this second appointment with the exhibitions created through the open call "THE CREATIVE ROOM", wants to lead you on a path between two projects that are somehow opposites but communicating with each other, in a game between inside and outside in the splendid rooms of the Palazzo Donà Brusa. The artists presented are: Benedetta Dosa, Chiara Ventura, Claudia De Luca, Corn Shuk Meiho, Diana Fiedler, Lucia Pinzani, Marisa Luana Quartin, Matheus Morani, Ro Chu Chiu, Roanne O'Donnell, Sevana Holst, Vincenzo Zancana, Alessandro Morino, Daniela Di Lullo, Dea Ananda Azalia, Holly Williams-Richards, Ilaria Pulcini, Lucio Tosi, Margarita Goukou, Philippos Kappa and Tanguy de Thuret.

The starting point of our second and third exhibitions was to investigate how artists have been able to experience both the real and the virtual space, underlining how the creative process has changed and adapted in pandemic times. Starting from the physical site, it has been enlightening to discover different ways of converting one's home into the place of creation and production, a process that tended to lead to two different outcomes: either profound introspection into oneself and into one's artistic practice, or, on the other hand, a growing need for reaching out with the outdoors.
Looking Within collects works by artists mainly focused on the intimate sphere and introspection, while Outside the Window gathers a selection of art pieces eager to tell chronicles of a previously underestimated routine, a reality where the artist assumed the role of a spectator of the outside world.

Looking Within and Outside the Window invite the public into the artists’ space of confinement, where they found a new form of inspiration. Each exhibition tells a different aspect of life in lockdown, offering the visitor the opportunity to relate with the artists’ journey in isolation or, on the contrary, to discover a very different experience from theirs. In times like these, Art is hence called upon to play a vital role: to be a truly inclusive and understandable medium, capable of giving new meaning to past year’s events - a period we somehow went through separately , and yet together.

ll punto di partenza della nostra seconda e terza mostra è stato quello di indagare il modo il cui gli artisti hanno vissuto sia lo spazio reale che quello virtuale, sottolineando come il processo creativo sia cambiato e si sia adattato in tempi di pandemia. Partendo dallo spazio fisico, è interessante scoprire modi diversi di trasformare la propria casa nel luogo di creazione e produzione, un prosieguo che tende a portare a due esiti diversi: o una profonda introspezione in sé stessi e nella propria pratica artistica, oppure, dall'altro un crescente bisogno di comunicazione con il mondo esterno.

Looking Within raccoglie opere di artisti maggiormente focalizzati sulla sfera intima e introspettiva, mentre Outside the Window presenta una selezione di opere desiderose di raccontare cronache di una routine precedentemente sottovalutata, una realtà in cui l'artista assumeva il ruolo di spettatore del mondo esterno.

Looking Within e Outside the Window invitano il pubblico nello spazio dove gli artisti sono stati confinati e hanno trovato una nuova forma di ispirazione. Ogni mostra racconta un aspetto diverso della vita durante il lockdown, offrendo al visitatore l'opportunità di relazionarsi con il percorso degli artisti in isolamento o, al contrario, di scoprire un'esperienza molto diversa dalla loro. L'arte in questo momento è quindi chiamata a svolgere un ruolo fondamentale: essere un medium realmente inclusivo e comprensibile, capace di dare un nuovo significato agli eventi passati, tempi che in qualche modo abbiamo vissuto separatamente, seppur insieme.
