From November 28 to January 11, L.U.P.O. – Lorenzelli Projects will host Through the Garden Bars, the first solo European exhibition by young Brazilian artist Marina Woisky, curated by Domenico De Chirico. Conceived during the artist’s residency in Milan, the exhibition delves into the interplay between nature and artifice, memory and identity, inviting critical reflection on perception and transformation.
Woisky’s works navigate the boundaries between the domestic and the wild, crafting an immersive experience that challenges traditional aesthetic categories. Using unconventional materials like printed textiles filled with cement, acrylic stacks, and resin, she creates hybrid forms that oscillate between two- and three-dimensionality. Her layered, fluid, and organic compositions evoke ever-shifting visual landscapes where the line between reality and imagination dissolves.
The exhibition encourages viewers to “look through the bars”—a metaphorical gesture symbolizing the tension between proximity and distance, between the desire to belong and the impossibility of fully doing so. Woisky’s art examines the relationship between body and space, the fragility and resilience of nature, and the transformative potential of imagery. By reinterpreting visuals of ancient objects, animals, and ornaments sourced online or created through photography, Woisky fuses tradition with contemporaneity. Her works take on a mythical and decorative quality, yet remain deeply symbolic, presenting a new perspective where “coexisting with” nature replaces the traditional human-nature dichotomy.
