La Pinacoteca Agnelli continua la sua ricerca sul tema del collezionismo e ospita, dal 22 ottobre 2014 al 22 febbraio 2015, “Martino Gamper: design is a state of mind”, organizzata in collaborazione con Serpentine Galleries di Londra e il Museion di Bolzano.

“Non c’è un design perfetto e non c’è un über-design. Gli oggetti ci parlano. Alcuni possono essere più funzionali di altri, ma l’attaccamento emotivo è soggettivo. La mostra svela un modo intimo di collezionare e mettere insieme oggetti – sono pezzi che raccontano una favola.” - Martino Gamper.

La mostra, a cura del designer italiano Martino Gamper (Merano, 1971), presenta librerie e mobili, che raccontano la storia del design e il loro impatto sulle nostre vite, dagli anni ’30 ad oggi. Variando dai classici della storia del design ai pezzi unici al design industriale, a quello funzionale fino a lavori commissionati, la mostra includerà oggetti di noti designers come Franco Albini, Ercol, Charlotte Perriand, Gaetano Pesce, Giò Ponti, Ettore Sottsass disposti vicino a IKEA e Dexion.

La funzionalità di ogni pezzo è sottolineata dagli oggetti che Gamper ha scelto dalle collezioni private di amici e colleghi, nonché una vasta libreria di cataloghi di produzione di mobili contemporanei di tutto il mondo, a rappresentare in modo eclettico il modo in cui disponiamo, archiviamo e organizziamo le cose che possediamo.

Dalla bellezza del quotidiano alla meraviglia della reliquia, queste collezioni offrono una panoramica delle ispirazioni e delle ossessioni dei designers.

Tra i designers le cui collezioni saranno in mostra: Enzo Mari, Paul Neale, Max Lamb & Gemma Holt, Jane Dillon, Michael Marriott, Sebastian Bergne, Fabien Cappello, Adam Hills, Michael Anastassiades, Andrew Mc Donagh & Andreas Schmid, Daniel Eatock e Martino Gamper stesso.

In mostra un’installazione realizzata da Martino Gamper come omaggio all’iconico designer italiano Enzo Mari e alla sua collezione di disegni, appunti e fermacarte raccolti negli anni.

La mostra alla Pinacoteca Agnelli esporrà inoltre alcune librerie e mobili di collezioni private torinesi.

La pratica di Martino Gamper comprende exhibition design, interior design, lavori su commissione, design di prodotto per aziende di arredamento internazionali. Alla continua ricerca di nuovi modi di interagire e attivare il design con la vita di tutti i giorni, il lavoro di

Gamper sfida i confini tra arte, design, performance e curatela.

La mostra è stata ospitata alla Serpentine Sackler Gallery di Londra ( 5 marzo – 18 maggio 2014) e sarà poi ospitata al Museion di Bolzano (12 giugno al 13 settembre 2015) dove Martino Gamper nel 2011 ha ideato lo spazio di Passage.

La mostra alla Pinacoteca Agnelli è sponsorizzata da BNP Paribas, Borbonese e Reale Mutua.

Martino Gamper (nato nel 1971 a Merano, Italia) vive e lavora a Londra. Dopo aver lavorato come apprendista con un produttore di mobili a Merano, Gamper ha studiato scultura con Michelangelo Pistoletto presso l'Accademia di Belle Arti di Vienna. Nel 2000 ha completato un Master al Royal College of Art di Londra, dove ha studiato con Ron Arad. Lavorando al confine tra design e arte, Martino Gamper si impegna in una serie di progetti, dalla progettazione espositiva, all’interior design, commissioni una tantum e design dei prodotti di massa per l'industria del mobile internazionale.
Gamper ha presentato le sue opere e i suoi progetti in tutto il mondo.
Tra le mostre e le commissioni: 'Tu casa, mi casa', The Modern Institute, Glasgow (2013); 'Bench Years', commissione London Design Festival, V&A Museum di Londra (2012); Gesamtkunsthandwerk’ (Karl Fritsch, Martino Gamper e Francesco Upritchard), Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, New Plymouth - Nuova Zelanda (2011); Progetto per Café Charlottenborg, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen (2011); 'Bench a Bench', arredo urbano pubblico a East London, in collaborazione con LTGDC (2011); 'A 100 chairs in 100 days ", 5 Cromwell Place, Londra (2007); ‘Wouldn't it be Nice...Wishful thinking in Art & Designʼ, Centre d’Art Contemporain, Ginevra (2007). Gamper ha vinto il Premio Moroso per l'arte contemporanea nel 2011, e il Brit Insurance Designs of the Year, Furniture Award nel 2008 per il suo progetto 'A 100 Chairs in 100 days'.

The Pinacoteca Agnelli continues its exploration of collecting with the exhibition “Martino Gamper: design is a state of mind”, from 22 October 2014 to 22 February 2015 produced in collaboration with Serpentine Galleries, London and Museion, Bolzano.

“There is no perfect design and there is no über-design. Objects talk to us personally. Some might be more functional than others, and the emotional attachment is very individual. Curated by the Italian designer Martino Gamper (Merano, 1971), the show presents a landscape of shelving systems, telling the story of design objects and their impact on our lives. The pieces of furniture date from the 1930s to the present day and range from historic design classics and one-off pieces, to industrial, utilitarian, contemporary and newly commissioned work. Renowned designers such as Franco Albini, Ercol, Charlotte Perriand, Gaetano Pesce, Giò Ponti and Ettore Sottsass are placed in close proximity to IKEA and Dexion industrial shelves.
The function of each piece is underlined by the collections of objects arranged on them, which have been chosen by Gamper from the personal archives of his friends and colleagues. From the beauty of the mundane to the wonder of the relic, these collections give an insight into the inspirations and obsessions of designers.

The exhibition is an eclectic representation of the way in which we arrange, store and organise our possessions.

Designers whose collections are featured include: Enzo Mari, Paul Neale, Max Lamb & Gemma Holt, Jane Dillon, Michael Marriott, Sebastian Bergne, Fabien Cappello, Adam Hills, Michael Anastassiades, Andrew Mc Donagh & Andreas Schmid, Daniel Eatock and Martino Gamper himself.

The show also presents an installation by Gamper that is homage to iconic Italian designer Enzo Mari and includes an installation of drawings, notes and designs held down by unusual paperweights collected by him over many years.

The exhibition in the Pinacoteca Agnelli will also feature a number of bookcases and pieces of furniture from private collections in Turin.

Martino Gamper’s practice encompasses exhibition design, interior design, special commissions and the design of mass-produced products for the international furniture industry. Constantly looking for new ways to engage with and activate design within our

everyday lives, Gamper’s work challenges the boundaries between fine art, design, performance and curation.

The exhibition was hosted at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery in London (5 March – 18 May 2014) and will also be presented at Museion in Bolzano (12 June to 13 September 2015) where Martino Gamper designed the Passage area in 2011.

Martino Gamper (b. 1971, Merano, Italy) lives and works in London. Starting as an apprentice with a furniture maker in Merano, Gamper went on to study sculpture under Michelangelo Pistoletto at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. He completed a Masters in 2000 from the Royal College of Art, London, where he studied under Ron Arad. Working across design and art venues, Martino Gamper engages in a variety of projects, from exhibition design, interior design, one-off commissions and the design of mass-produced products for the cutting edge of the international furniture industry.
