Cripta747 è lieta di invitarvi all'open studio di Mattia Capelletti, curatore in residenza e vincitore della borsa di ricerca di Cripta747 Residency Programme 2021 con il progetto “Who is It?”.

Con “Who Is It?”, Mattia Capelletti si concentra in particolare sul timbro vocale, qualità sonora che permette l’identificazione del parlante e descrive una politica di ascolto basata sul riconoscimento e condizionata da norme culturalmente specifiche.

Attorno al timbro si articola la costruzione dell'identità, mediante processi collettivi che coinvolgono sia il parlante che l’ascoltatore.
Per nulla vincolato a una corporeità immutabile, come viene invece generalmente considerato, il timbro è piuttosto da intendersi come un esperimento intersoggettivo in cui la voce accoglie in sé l’altro attraverso le sue infinite possibilità, disattendendo le aspettative e perturbando i binarismi normativi. Catturato nella sua funzione di traccia dell’individualità, il timbro diventa oggetto di controllo biopolitico per mezzo delle tecnologie di ascolto con cui interagiamo sempre più frequentemente. Ma è proprio in relazione alle tecnologie di sorveglianza, di clonazione vocale, che si dispiega l’orizzonte di una nuova politica della voce, caratterizzata da tattiche di manipolazione del timbro spesso articolate attraverso l’abuso creativo delle stesse tecnologie che tentano di controllarla.

Cripta747 is delighted to invite you to the Open Studio of Mattia Capelletti, curator in residence and winner of the research fellowship of the Cripta747 Residency Programme 2021 who will present the project “Who Is It?”.

With “Who Is It?” Mattia Capelletti focuses on vocal timbre, a sound quality that allows for the identification of the speaker and draws a politics of listening based on recognition and conditioned by specific cultural norms.

The construction of identity is articulated around vocal timbre through collective processes that involve both the speaker and the listener. By no means bound to an immutable corporeality, unlike it is generally considered, timbre is rather to be understood as an intersubjective experiment in which the voice welcomes the other through its infinite possibilities, disregarding expectations and disrupting normative binarisms. Captured in its function of trace of individuality, timbre is subjected to biopolitical control by means of the listening technologies we interact more and more with. But it is precisely in relation to surveillance and voice cloning technologies that a new voice politics unfolds, characterized by tactics of manipulation of vocal timbre, often carried out through the creative abuse of the same technologies that try to control it.
