M’barek Bouhchichi – Mi sto avvicinando a te

La Galleria Valentina Bonomo è lieta di annunciare l’inaugurazione della mostra personale di M’barek Bouhchichi (Akka, Marocco, 1975) negli spazi di Via del portico d’Ottavia 13. L’esposizione – dal titolo “Mi sto avvicinando a te” a cura di Chiara Ianeselli – inaugura il 20 marzo dalle ore 15 alle ore 21 e sarà aperta al pubblico fino al 20 maggio 2025.

Attraverso opere concepite per questa mostra, Bouhchichi intreccia voci intime e memorie collettive, trasformando il suo racconto in un respiro più ampio, capace di attraversare le mura della galleria e tornare nel deserto. Un’ombra di un giorno mai finito che lascia un’impressione perpetua, una silhouette che cammina oltre la superficie del visibile. La ricerca artistica di Bouhchichi si posa sulle pieghe dell’identità, svelandone le velature: una danza delle ombre, così frenetica da evocare ferite mai ben ricucite, mai riconosciute.

Nei suoi dipinti corpi scuri affiorano da sfondi gialli di caucciù, un materiale che trattiene il segno amaro del lavoro forzato, del sudore derivante dalla sua estrazione e produzione.

Queste figure interrogano il passato coloniale, volti che emergono da una forzata marginalità per esigere spazio, per reclamare la forma a lungo imposta e poi negata e poi imposta nuovamente. Ma sono anche specchi attraverso cui l’artista interroga se stesso, rendendo la pittura un atto di resistenza e di rilettura della storia, della sua storia.

Ispirato tra gli altri dai pensieri di Frantz Fanon e Aimé Césaire, Bouhchichi esplora le ombre persistenti del dominio coloniale, le tracce indelebili che le geografie e i geografi di potere definiscono. Le sue opere sono frammenti di una storia ancora da scrivere, che trova voce in Italiaattraverso quest’esposizione.”

The Galleria Valentina Bonomo is pleased to announce the opening of the solo exhibition by M’Barek Bouhchichi (Akka, Morocco, 1975) at the spaces of Via del Portico d’Ottavia 13. The exhibition, titled “I Am Getting Closer to You” and curated by Chiara Ianeselli, will open on March 20 from 3 PM to 9 PM and will be open to the public until May 20, 2025.

Through works conceived for this exhibition, Bouhchichi intertwines intimate voices and collective memories, transforming his narrative into a broader breath, one that crosses the walls of the gallery and returns to the desert. A shadow of a day that never ended, leaving a perpetual impression, a silhouette walking beyond the surface of the visible. Bouhchichi's artistic research rests on the folds of identity, revealing its veils: a dance of shadows so frenetic that it evokes wounds never fully healed, never acknowledged.

In his paintings, dark bodies emerge from rubbery yellow backgrounds, a material that retains the bitter mark of forced labor, of the sweat derived from its extraction and production. These figures question the colonial past, faces that emerge from a forced marginality to demand space, to reclaim the form long imposed, then denied, and then imposed again. But they are also mirrors through which the artist interrogates himself, making painting an act of resistance and a reinterpretation of history, of his history.

Inspired, among others, by the thoughts of Frantz Fanon and Aimé Césaire, Bouhchichi explores the persistent shadows of colonial domination, the indelible marks left by the geographies and geographers of power. His works are fragments of a history still to be written, finding a voice in Italy through this exhibition.
