Only silence is shame

Credo che vivere voglia dire essere partigiani. L’indifferenza è abulia, è parassitismo, è vigliaccheria, non è vita.

È stato mio dovere parlare, non volevo essere complice. Quanto alle persone che ho accusato, io non le conosco, non le ho mai viste. Non provo verso di loro né rancore né odio. Esse non sono per me che delle entità, degli spiriti di malvagità sociale.

Io so tutti questi nomi e so tutti i fatti di cui si sono resi colpevoli. Io so. Ma non ho le prove. Non ho nemmeno indizi. Io so perché sono un intellettuale.

Father, yes, I am a prisoner. Fear not to relay my crime. The crime is loving the forsaken. Only silence is shame.

I believe that living means taking sides. Indifference and apathy are parasitism, perversion, not life.

My duty is to speak, I don't want to be an accomplice. As for the people I accuse, I do not know them, I have never seen them, I have no resentment or hatred against them. They are for me only entities, spirits of social evil.

I know all these names and know all the facts of which they’ve become guilty of. I know. But I don’t have any evidence. I don’t even have clues. I know because I am an intellectual.

Questo per dire che gli intellettuali, gli autori, gli artisti devono essere lasciati liberi di parlare.

Presenteremo un nuovo video (o più di uno) ogni nuova settimana della mostra. E durante quella successiva lo lasceremo andare in loop. I video si alterneranno, fino a sabato 6 aprile dove, dalle 11 alle 20, saranno proiettati in sequenza tutti i video in mostra.

The paragraphs are respectively taken from “The Ballad of Sacco and Vanzetti (Part 2)” by Joan Baez, from “The Indifferent” by Antonio Gramsci, from “J’Accuse” by Émile Zola, and from “What is this coup d’état? I Know” by Pier Paolo Pasolini.

This is to say that intellectuals, authors, artists must be free to speak.

We will present a new video (or more than one) every week of the exhibition. The work will be screened throughout the following week. The videos will alternate until Saturday 6th April, when all the showcased works will be projected in sequence from 11am to 8pm.
