Talking to the walls è il secondo episodio di una trilogia di esposizioni che ha preso avvio con la mostra Talking to the plants alla galleria Martin Van Zomeren di Rotterdam; una serie di mostre che indaga gli aspetti culturali che definiscono l’arte in termine di origine ed effetti.
Il titolo della mostra deriva da un ciclo di conferenze tenute da Jacques Lacan (1901-1982) nella cappella dell'ospedale Sainte-Anne di Parigi tra il 1971 e il 1972, ai cui muri dedica le sue parole, parlando a se stesso. Anche per l'artista venezuelano la relazione con il luogo stimola una riflessione che coinvolge alcuni punti centrali del dibattito estetico e parlare con i muri significa allora interrogarsi su ciò che chiamiamo arte e cultura.
Gli spazi bianchi della galleria e lo stesso impianto architettonico determinano in un certo senso le condizioni e le possibilità espressive dell'opera e del processo artistico, i cui estremi vanno dall’istinto decorativo, l'espressione della coscienza di sè propria anche dell’uomo preistorico, ad una compiutezza priva di ornamenti, manifestazione concreta della coscienza dei tempi.
Le opere di Oscar Pabón in mostra alla galleria Fuoricampo si muovono sul limite di questa ambidromia, alternando interventi site-specific realizzati con pattern che restituiscono una sorta di fregio ma dalla forte carica concettuale, ad opere che esaltano le caratteristiche proprie del materiale la cui valenza estetica è tutta compresa nella struttura che diviene forma e viceversa.

FuoriCampo is pleased to present a new solo show by Oscar Abraham Pabón (San Juan de Colón, Venezuela, 1984) in Siena.

Talking to the Walls is the second episode in a trilogy of shows that began with a show entitled Talking to the Plants at the Martin van Zomeren gallery in Rotterdam. Together, the series of shows investigate the cultural aspects that define art in terms of its origins and effects.
The exhibition’s title comes from a cycle of conferences held by Jacques Lacan (1901-1982) in the chapel of the Sainte-Anne hospital in Paris, between 1971 and 1972, at which his words were addressed to the walls alone, and for his ears only. Similarly, for this Venezuelan artist the relationship with place stimulates a reflection involving a number of central points in the aesthetic debate, and thus speaking to the walls means questioning what we call art and culture. The white spaces of the gallery, and its architectural layout itself, in a sense determine the conditions and the expressive possibilities of the work, and of the artistic process, the extremes of which range from the decorative instinct, and the expression of self-awareness that is found even in prehistoric man, to a completeness devoid of ornament, a concrete manifestation of an awareness of time.
Oscar Pabón’s works on show at Galleria FuoriCampo operate on the borderline of this ambidrome, alternating site-specific interventions created with patterns that result in a sort of frieze, but having a powerful conceptual impact, with works that highlight the characteristics of the material, the aesthetic content of which is located entirely within the structure that becomes form, and vice versa.
