Quando il pubblico diventa co-creatore: un progetto a metà tra “Work in Progress” e Mostra d’Arte sul tema della nostalgia.

Le artiste Patricia Silva e Lyall Harris creeranno dei nuovi lavori dal vivo, dal 23 marzo al 2 Aprile, occupando gli spazi della SRISA Gallery e trasformando materiali di scarto in opere d’arte sul tema della Nostalgia. Durante questo periodo il pubblico è invitato a interagire con le artiste.

Perché:
Dal 2014, Silva e Harris hanno collaborato ad una serie di dodici libri d’artista dedicati ad una vasta gamma di temi, tra i quali la condizione della maternità, le nozioni di abbandono e di perdita, i problemi d’identità e la complessa realtà dell’immigrazione in Italia oggi. Tutti i libri della serie sono stati realizzati con materiali trovati o scambiati tra artisti e sono stati creati in un tempo ridotto. Allo stesso modo, l’intervento artistico alla SRISA Gallery si svolgerà entro precisi limiti materiali e temporali, ma potrà contare su di una nuova, fondamentale ispirazione: il pubblico.

Chi:
Vi invitiamo a contribuire al progetto selezionando le materie prime con cui le artiste creeranno le nuove opere. Il pubblico è chiamato a scegliere e a portare materiale che evochi, soggettivamente o oggettivamente, un senso di nostalgia: carta, materiali stampati, tessuti, abiti usati, vecchi libri, lettere e appunti, scarti di legno, contenitori usati, oggetti trovati, oggetti stampabili e perfino resti vegetali (puliti e secchi), scarti di materiale artistico ed ogni tipo di archivio cartaceo, come biglietti usati, cartoline, etc.

Quando:
Il materiale dev’essere consegnato al Campus SRISA (in via San Gallo 53/r) a partire dal 6 marzo. Si ricorda che il materiale donato non sarà restituito e che non tutto il materiale sarà utilizzato per il progetto finale. Il lavoro completo verrà esposto alla SRISA Gallery dal 5 al 15 Aprile. Il 5 Aprile la galleria ospiterà un evento d’inaugurazione della mostra con un intervento di Silva e Harris.

A Call to Contribute to an Innovative Artist Residency/Exhibition

What:
Artists Patricia Silva and Lyall Harris will be creating a new body of work in real time. From March 23rd to April 2nd, they will occupy the SRISA gallery space in a process-based undertaking where they will transform donated materials into artwork based on the theme of “Nostalgia.” The public is encouraged to interact with the artists during this period.

Why:
Since 2014, Silva and Harris have collaborated on a series of 12 ambitious artists’ books, covering a range of topics, among these, the challenges of motherhood, notions of leaving and loss, issues of identity, and the fraught reality of contemporary immigration to Italy. The books in the series were all made from collected materials, exchanged between the artists, and created within a restricted timeframe. The SRISA in-gallery collaboration similarly presents these artists with limited materials and set time constraints—but with a new twist.

Who:
You, the public! This is an open call for the raw materials from which these artists will create this body of work: Please select and contribute materials that evoke, subjectively or objectively, a sense of nostalgia. Materials may include, but are not limited to: paper, printed matter, fabric, discarded clothing, old books, letters and notes, wood scraps, discarded containers, found objects, “printable” objects including plant matter, leftover art supplies and all kinds of ephemera.

When:
Materials may be dropped off at the SRISA campus beginning March 6th. Please note that contributed materials will not be returned and not all materials may be included in the final projects. The completed works will be on display in the SRISA gallery from April 5th – 15th. On April 5th, the gallery will host an inauguration event for the exhibition and an artists’ talk by Silva and Harris.
